The Destruction of the Red Cedar Sept… (Game 21)

As the Sept of the Red Cedar decided to call for a moot, Voice of Thunder asked the Bear Claw pack to return to the encampment and spy on Qorjin for a week. Afterwards, a rabbit spirit would get in contact with the pack in order to present the Sept’s decision.

With the conversation over, the Bear Claw pack returned to the barn to gather their belongings to head to Qorjin. Unbeknownst to even the pack itself, Kevin had taken the Baneklaive from the Black Spiral Dancer pack leader and placed it in the barn. As the pack returned to the barn, a sinkhole opened up and six Black Spiral Dancers came forth ambushing the pack.

Alexander suffered a near fatal blow first, followed by Cateran, and then Cormack. Although Arthur was able to detect the ambush, it was too late to warn everyone. As the fight broke out, three more Dancers climbed out of sinkhole and charged towards the barn. Malcolm managed to down one with his Ironhammer, but the other two got into the barn.

The battle raged on and in the chaos, Cormack was slain by a Dancer. Arthur retaliated by grabbing the Dancer’s klaive and shoving it into his side, killing him. As Alexander and Cateran down several Dancers, Arthur took the Baneklaive and cut off the heads of the downed Dancers before they could rise up again. During this time, the sinkhole closed, killing an unknown number of additional Dancers who might have come out of it.

The battle was over in less than a minute, but the results spoke for itself. One of the Bear Claw pack had died, the Sept’s bawn had been invaded, and Arthur and Kevin were tainted from tactics used in battle. Cateran took the time to place the Dancer’s heads on pikes, hoping it would deter them from returning while Arthur and Kevin were cleansed. Once things settled, the Bear Claw pack called for Worthy to get them in touch with Voice of Thunder.

Realizing things were transpiring much faster than anticipated, Voice of Thunder chose to have the Bear Claw pack go to Qorjin and accept vassalage for the Sept. The Bear Claw pack traveled as fast they could back to the encampment to see thousands of warriors prepared to attack at a moment’s notice. Alexander realized Qorjin was not lying about his forces, so he went to the Garou and plead vassalage for the Sept of the Red Cedar.

Asking what he wanted of him, Alexander asked for men to stop the Black Spiral Dancer threat. Qorjin responded by giving him 100 kinfolk armed with silver weapons. Although Alexander thought this might not be enough, he graciously accepted. The pack had to act quickly and agreed upon storming the hive and eliminating the Dancers.

The trip took almost a week. Once they had arrived at the village sinkhole, Alexander sent 75 men down the right side of the fork in the tunnels that had traversed before and 25 men down the other with the Bear Claw pack itself. Unfortunately, they found no remnants of the Black Spiral Dancers and realized they had made a tactical error.

As they got close to the Sept, the rite the Black Spiral Dancers did took hold and drove all of the pack save Arthur into frenzy with visions of the Dancers and Fomor. The pack desperately tried to stop from attacking the kinfolk army and ran through their Rage reserves before regaining their senses.

Rushing to the Sept, they found a slaughter. The entirety of the Sept of the Red Cedar had been destroyed. The Red Cedar itself burned as Dancers gleefully danced around the pyre as Fomor joined them. The Bear Claw pack looked on and was forced to make a hard decision: attack and die trying or retreat back to Qorjin.

Alexander was torn, but ultimately decided that sacrificing his pack for no gains was fruitless. Along with the lack of ability to maintain the rituals that keep Dasbog contained, Alexander could see no hope for this Sept. Although he retreated with his pack and the men, he felt personally responsible for making the wrong decision to send the men to the hive instead of the Sept.

As they left, Alexander had Kevin search for Bites-At-Flies for a day in the surrounding area before returning to the pack empty handed. With everything in shambles, the pack made the arduous two year journey back to the Sept of the Three Stones. There, they told Hugh of their success in completing the task given to them, but the ultimate failure in losing the Sept as well.

Dazbog

What would happen to the Bear Claw pack is unknown, but at the Sept of the Red Cedar, the Black Spiral Dancers managed to free Dasbog from his prison. The bane would later go on to make a body out of the corpses of fallen Garou who died defending it. It later left the area and disappeared. Ten years later, Qorjin and the Mongol horde swept through the lands again, this time destroying everything in their wake.

Although the White Lion’s Pride pack could not affect this vision of the past, they would take with them the lessons learned and reverberations of the Bear Claw pack’s action into the future as the Drowned King once more charged into the Umbra tunnel.

An Offer From The Mongol Horde, Black Spiral Madness, And The Importance of Rank… (Game 20)

As the fire from the straw began to burn out, Alexander directed his pack to enter the tunnels and find the missing villagers.

Before the pack could go too deep in the tunnels, the sound of nearby Garou above made them return to the pit. At the top of the pit was the Breys Hand pack consisting of Batuani Seven-Shadows, Running Prince, Nightflit, and Pei Ling. The Bear Claw pack climbed out of the pit to greet the new arrivals. The Breys Hand pack happened to be in the area and were scouting ahead for their Sept.

From down in the pit, Bites-at-Flies called out to the Bear Claw pack to assist him in finding the villagers. The Breys Hand pack in response offered their help if the Bear Claw pack would meet with their Jagon (Sept). The Bear Claw pack agreed to it and entered the tunnels, chasing after Bites-at-Flies who had already gone ahead.

Hive tunnel

Descending into the tunnels, the two packs came across a fork with seven different tunnels. Only two of them were large enough to move humans through, so the two pack split up with the Bear Claw pack going to the left tunnel. The pack finally caught up to Bites-at-Flies in the tunnel deeper as he tried to smell for the villagers.

Heading deeper into the tunnels, the pack narrowly avoided a trap and arrived at a gate with three different levers. A little deducing by the pack determines that the lock is a combination lock and must be pulled in a certain order. Debate broke out among the pack with Kevin wanting to break it, but Bern and Alexander believing that might alert nearby Spirals. Eventually, the pack worked together to piece the combination together based on the arrangement of the levers.

Hive chamber

Following drag marks, the Bear Claw pack came across what appeared to be an altar or caern. A chimney leads to the outside with the moon shining down on it. Approximately sixty villagers lay nearby, beheaded with their heads placed on pikes pointing to the altar. Strange glyphs littered the entire area.

Bites-at-Flies said this was a profane ritual designed to attack Luna herself. Alexander remarked that he foreseen this as one of the possibilities for the abduction. The other possibilities involved procuring breeding stock and weakening the nearby area for an assault on the Sept to free the bound Wyrm spirit, Dasbog. Bern said this could be used to cut off non-Black Spiral Dancers from the moon, but the pack was still uncertain of what it could be used for.

BS Hive Map

There are several other paths leading out from here and the pack believed the hive had to be massive, possibly over a square mile in diameter. Realizing they need to warn the Sept and leave before they are spotted, the Bear Claw pack returned to the forked and did a Howl of Summoning for the Breys Hand pack. In response, they heard at least six howls. Once the Breys Hand packed arrived, they all escaped the tunnels through the pit.

The Bear Claw pack was more concerned now with warning the Sept of the Red Cedar and tried to leave, but Pei Ling protested that they agreed to visit their Sept. In response, Alexander sent Bites-at-Flies back to the Sept to warn them while the Bear Claw pack accompanied the Breys Hand pack to their Sept that was about a one day run from the village.

Kuriyen

Arriving at the encampment, the Bear Claw pack could see warriors being trained by the leader of the encampment, Qorjin. There appeared to be over 200 people in the area with tents spread throughout. As the pack waited for him to finish his teaching, the Breys Hand pack talked a little about themselves and told the Bear Claw pack they were councilors to Qorjin and he was second in command to Ogedie Khan, leader of the Sept.

After Qorjin was finished he greeted the Bear Claw pack cordially and told them it was their tradition that guests receive hospitality for three days and nights before beginning business talks. The Bear Claw pack was led to a lavish tent where they were fed, bathed, and sated sexually for the predetermined time, but not before Alexander warned them not to overindulge in case they were required to repay the favor.

After the hospitality, Qorjin sat down with the pack to discuss what he required of them. After learning that the pack wasn’t from the area, Qorjin realized this would be for the best since we were effectively neutral to the situation. He told the Bear Claw pack that he was a scouting party for the Mongol hoard of more than 6,000 that were marching throughout the lands to claim them. If the Sept of the Red Cedar accepts vassalage to Khan and his horde, he will leave them alone in return for help later on when needed.

Kevin asked about what happens after they leave and how they interact with certain Septs, but Qorjin merely says they have never returned to them. When asked about what happened to those Septs that rejected his offer, he tells them his army destroyed them. The mention of the word army causes Alexander to cringe.

After sending Qorjin out of the tent for a moment, the pack spoke to each other through the totem silently. They agreed to it, but not before Alexander warned them of the potential for being forced into a rock and a hard place with the two Septs potentially warring against each other. After giving their answer to Qorjin, the pack immediately left the Sept with the threat of the Black Spirals looming.

Returning to the barn outside of the Sept, they called for Worthy who sets up a meeting with Voice of Thunder and a few others of the Sept. After being told of the situation about the Black Spirals and the threat of the Mongols, Voice of Thunder questions why we need to remain here since their task is effectively complete. Alexander tells them they want to avenge their fallen White Howler brothers. When asked about avenging them, glory for the deeds, the nature of the response he gave, and whether or not they are involved with the Spirals, Alexander corrects Voice of Thunder and tells him the Black Spiral Dancers are no longer their brothers but a twisted perversion of the tribe.

Voice of Thunder is obviously hesitant. He is concerned about both threats at the moment, but also the disrespect he was shown when he asked Alexander to hand over his klaive to Vladimir earlier. Alexander is forthcoming about being selfish with his tribal heirloom, but also concerned that handing the klaive to a Fenrir would restart a war with the tribe that had just begun to die off.

Offering to make amends and restore their honor and respect, Voice of Thunder proposes two things they can do. He first asks the pack about the importance of rank, which all of the members give an impassioned speech, effectively convincing him they understand it.

Finally, he tells the pack to pledge a year of servitude to the Sept in order to learn more of the importance of rank and understand their roles in life. Alexander agrees to it.

Voice of Thunder then tells of the Battle of Samara Bend when the Mongols attempted to do this once before with 1,000 men. They were repelled with a mere 30 Garou, but with the use of kinfolk and the threat of the Black Spiral Dancers, he is unsure if they can prevail or if they should bend a knee to Khan as it could be a trap.

Voice of Thunder then asks about whether the kinfolk of the village were safe, but the Bear Claw pack as well as Bites-at-Flies was unaware of the kinfolk. It is apparent that a third of the village was kinfolk, confirming Alexander’s suspicion that they were abducted for breeding purposes. Most of the Sept thinks it wasn’t worth it to risk a pack’s life for kinfolk.

Alexander voices his concern over the potential of unleashing Dasbog, which Voice of Thunder agrees as Khan or Qorjin would not be able to control once freed. He also says they don’t have the Theurge power to re-bind him. Voice of Thunder then asks Alexander and the Bear Claw pack what they should do. However, after being humbled by the experience of regaining the Sept’s respect, the Bear Claw pack chooses to let their Sept be the final decision as they are not sufficient rank to make such a call. It is agreed then that a moot will be called of the entire Sept in order to determine the fate of the Sept of the Red Cedar…

The Legend of the Bear Claw Pack Begins… (Game 19)

After watching the fall of the White Howlers, we were pulled from our ancestor’s bodies like before. We traveled again through the tunnel in the deep Umbra, fighting the Drowned King constantly as we moved forward in time again.

The Drowned King bucked once again, but this time, instead of being forced into an ancestor’s body, we were suspended in air to merely witness the events unfold around us. We had moved 1,000 years into the future in Northern Ireland. Each of us hovered over our ancestor and we knew them as the Bear Claw pack of the Sept of the Three Stones. My ancestor was Alexander Mac Fionn, Eli’s was Malcolm “Drops-the-Hammer”, Miguel’s was Cormack, John’s was Arthur “Heartstabber”, William’s was Kevin “Broken Arrow”, and Bjorn’s was Bern “Talks-with-Herbs.” Agnis had appeared on the Drowned King, by presumably the same way as Jonathon had before. Her ancestor was Cateran Firebrand.

We watched as our ancestor’s spent a great deal of time on bawn patrol. They were the youngest pack in the Sept and therefore lacked any level of power or respect in the Sept. After returning from one of their three day patrol then one day rest runs, they were preparing to enjoy their time off when a Moon Bridge opened up in the Sept.

Preparing for an attack, all of the Garou readied themselves for the worst when only one Garou came through. He said his name was Worthy, a Shadow Lord from the Sept of the Red Cedar. He was in dire need of assistance from a pack of Fianna. Hugh Fire Starter, the leader of the Sept, was reluctant to do so and wanted to gather all of the packs in order to choose the proper one. At that moment, Cateran nudged Alexander to volunteer which he did.

Hugh was very apprehensive of this, considering the pack’s youth and experience. Still, when pressed by Hugh, Alexander agreed to do this for them. Wasting no time, the Bear Claw pack gathered what few things they could and headed into the Moon Bridge. As they traveled, they noticed that the Moon Bridge was falling apart and being repaired by Lunes, something unusual to see.

red cedar grave

Arriving at the Sept of the Red Cedar, the pack surveyed the area and noticed a massive tree with Garou from every tribe surrounding it. As they walked towards the tree, Worthy told them a story of a would-be god who turned Wyrm creature two centuries ago. It was bound to the tree and turned into a caern.

The pack was led to a muscular Garou by the name of Voice of Thunder. He was the Sept leader. He told us that the Prophecies of Shadow worry the Garou here and if they can help the Sept, his Sept will owe the Sept of the Three Stones a favor. From here, the pack was introduced to Yarls, Seer of the World. He was the Sept’s Warder and showed the pack to where they would be staying, an old, dilapidated barn.

Accepting whatever they were willing to provide, the pack started to settle in when Yarls asked about their fetishes. When each of the pack told him about theirs, he left. After a short conversation amongst themselves, Yarls returned. He knew the legend of Caladbolg, Alexander’s grand klaive, and that it would be best to keep that fetish hidden because many will want it.

This statement made the pack ill at ease and Alexander chose to have the pack alternate guard for the night in order to prevent any thievery. In the meantime, Malcolm and Cateran hunted and managed to nab a very large deer for the group. Bern cleansed the food, leery of potential taint in the area. The night passed and there were no attempts to steal anything.

Returning to the Sept the next morning, the pack notices even more new Garou in the area. It is obvious something big is about to happen. Voice of Thunder speaks with pack about the arrivals, but they are distracted watching Yarls whisper to a massive Garou behind Voice of Thunder. As he finishes speaking, the massive Garou along with another man approach the pack.

The massive Garou is Vladimir “Meat Render” and he realizes he is too high of a rank to challenge for Alexander’s grand klaive so he simply asks him for it. This sets in motion a series of conversations that nearly cause violence. Kevin and Cateran believe he have no right to ask for such an ancestral heirloom that has been in Alexander’s family for three centuries. Cateran manages to convince the other man with Vladimir, who is serving as an interpreter, but Vladimir just shoves him aside. Kevin at this point is antagonizing him to the point of peeing on his boots.

Voice of Thunder sees then and intervenes. He asks that Alexander give the klaive to Vladimir which he flatly refuses. Voice of Thunder says this was a test and he failed. They would no longer have the Sept’s protection, nor food, and they would not be allowed their weapons in the Sept. As the tense situation wrapped up, the pack returned to the barn for the night.

Setting up a watch, as Alexander was now surer than ever someone would take their possessions, they rested until a knock came at the door. A bearded, foul-smelling Garou named Bites-at-Flies asked if he could speak with the pack. They invited him in, showing him kindness he wasn’t used to. He told of strange happenings going on in the nearby village of Bilar. Families had been disappearing lately and he could not be sure of the cause.

Player Map

The pack agreed to help the Bone Gnawer without question, likely because of his humble nature. The trip was an hour away from the Sept in Lupus form. Arriving at the village, the pack noticed that the palisades, which had recently been erected, were torn down in one spot. It was obvious either Garou or some type of animal did this.

hole

Heading into the village, the pack found no signs of life anywhere. There were no signs of violence either. The pack did find drag marks heading to the center of the village. As the pack headed there, they came across a gigantic hole, fifteen feet across. Bites-at-Flies said this was not here before.

Sister Worm

From the hole, the pack could hear a child sobbing down below. Grabbing some nearby rope, Cateran and Malcolm headed down into the pit with some torches. Looking for the source of the sounds, they could see a tunnel from which a woman bearing facial paint came forth. Behind her appeared six more individuals. It was a trap.

A battle quickly broke out with the rest of the pack minus Kevin jumping into the hole to engage what now appeared to be Black Spiral Dancers as they shifted. The woman attacks Cateran and Alexander rushes to his aid as the woman nearly kills Cateran with her klaive. Driving Caladbolg into what is obviously the Alpha of the pack, Alexander attempts to kill when two Garou intercept him. As the others spar off against a respective Garou each, Kevin up above drops a wagon onto the battlefield. He then throws a torch down, lighting the area a blaze.

VoidSnakes

As fire begins to rage across the hole, Alexander leaps over his attackers and drives his blade into the Alpha who had been carried away from the battle. The Garou carrying her mutters something in a language no one understands and causes Void Snakes, the creatures who made the hole and tunnel, to attack Alexander.

As each of the pack slay their enemies, Cateran, now healed by Bear, the pack’s totem, charges to Alexander’s aid. Killing the Void Snakes, the pack gets into the tunnel outside of the fire to heal. Bern cleanses Alexander’s Void Snake wounds, which are tainted. The pack now stared into the tunnels, curious about what lie ahead…

The Fall of the White Howlers… (Game 18)

As I was pulled from Delilah’s body, I found myself attached to the Drowned King. The rest of my pack was there along with the others who had participated in the Rite of Undying Pursuit. We fought endlessly, but I found I needed no food or drink. The Drowned King would occasionally kick us off him, but we inevitably returned.

When we were damaged too greatly by him, we were sent to the Deep Umbra to recover. There, we slept and dreamed. I didn’t realize as a spirit I could dream, but I did. I had dreams of my time with my son and of the past all at once. They were disorienting and comforting at the same time.

Once I recovered, I fought the Drowned King again, but this time the great Wyrm beast bucked and I was kicked off. I shuttled into a body not my own like before. I sat across from several men who looked disoriented and injured. We were on a beach, which considering the Drowned King’s affinity for water was not surprising.

As I looked around, I could see two bodies floating in the water face down. One of the men quickly went to their bodies and began checking their pockets for any food he could find. After grabbing what little food he could find, he introduced himself to John as Aidan Farwatcher. We knew he from the last vision of the past and we quickly acclimated ourselves to the situation and introduced ourselves to each other in order to determine who was who.

Scottish highlands

I could only assume after everyone introduced themselves and Bjorn and Eli did not that they were the two dead bodies on the shore. Thankfully, Aidan recognized the hilly land we were in as his home. He told us there is a shack nearby with a White Howler kinfolk we can go to where we can sort things out why we are here. Beyond the kinfolk’s home is a caern about 25 miles from here which should have some more answers to our condition but first we must get our bearings.

We initially were going as Lupus form, but after seeing a disoriented and completely zoned out man there who could not introduce himself, Aidan decided against it. Since it was only a mile away, Aidan helped the man along as we walked to the house.

The journey shouldn’t have taken more than twenty minutes, but the hills and carrying the dazed man slowed us down significantly. Still, we made it to the house and Aidan called out that he was a White Howler and in need of aid. From the house, a red-haired woman came out with a basket filled with bread.

She called out to Bone Whittler, which we initially did not know who among us it might be. Aidan came to realize it was the name of the body he was inhabiting. Aidan calls out for a specific person, but the woman just questions why he would ask for her grandfather. We now realize we have slipped forward in time. She then turns to Miguel and asks Alec why her husband is not with us. She then turns to me and ask Jamie what happened to her husband. I break the news that he did not make it and she faints in turn.

John catches her before she falls and Aidan tells us to take her inside. Her home is plain and simple, but inviting. Behind the house I see a pen with some sheep and a single cow. The woman eventually comes to and asks Aidan about her husband. She wonders why he doesn’t remember anything. Aidan makes up a story about a massive Wyrm beast attacking us and how it destroyed our memories. We ask if she could help fill us in on who we are in hopes of helping us along to remember.

I am Jamie Andraste, a Fianna Ahroun who hates the Silver Fangs with a passion and has a kinship with Larid, Hunts-His-Land, a White Howler who is a member of the Sky Shakers pack. I also have the strongest ties to the White Howlers. Alec, which is Miguel, grew up on a farm near here and married her sister Blair. She knows nothing about William, who is John, except that he has a sister. Aidan is Bone Whittler, a Theurge from the Sept of the Mile Deep Loch, who was to meet with the Sky Shakers for an important ritual.

She, herself, is Elizabeth, wife to Malcolm. She is with child and Malcolm promised we would protect her. Malcolm also created the weapons we carry. The man sitting dazed is Ronald McElray. The Bruce family wants him dead for a past transgression. He claims to be a ladies man, but most consider him nothing more than a thief and a liar. Finally, there was Lothar. He always fought for leadership with Malcolm and many thought he wasn’t quite right in the head. He had converted over to the Fianna and was being assisted in this by Tock, a fae, and Malcolm.

She offers us food and tells us she is going to find her husband. As Aidan digs in, I ask her if she is going to be alright. She just tells us she’s Scottish and she’ll be fine. I insist she should be accompanied since we made a pact with Malcolm. Aidan is obviously agitated by this and agrees to go with her.

On the beach, Malcolm manages to come to. He tries to resuscitate Lothar, but to no avail. Elizabeth arrives during this and is surprised at him not being dead. Malcolm claims to have lost his memory from drowning in the water, but Elizabeth tells him his pack is at the house and she can help him remember as Aidan helps him up.

As Malcolm returns, Ronald comes to, and we take the time to inform them of what we know and where we are. As we eat and gather our strength, a howl of war is heard. Heading outside to see who it is, we see an approaching pack of Garou. There are five of them: Maugh the Axe, Connor the Blade, Dannon Shakes-The-Sky, Grego the Hammer, and Karlson Sleeps-With-Death.

Maugh is overjoyed to Aidan and hugs him vigorously, much to Aidan’s discomfort. He thought Bone Whittler (Aidan) had been lost. As he begins to greet us, Grego makes a snide remark about the Fianna, which Maugh quickly tells him to be quiet as they are his brothers. It’s obvious that Grego and Karlson are not White Howlers, but Fenrir (Get of Fenris). The others are White Howlers.

Aidan cautiously asks about his (Aidan’s) fate. Maugh only tells him that Aidan Farwatcher left on a spirit quest 200 years ago and never returned. The reality of the situation is crushing for him, but he tries to bury this feeling to not alienate Maugh. Maugh tells him a Theurge from the Sept of the Mile Deep Loch has seen a vision of coming into contact with the Wyrm and prevailing. He asks us if we want to join him. Eli agrees, but I feel apprehensive. We were obviously knocked into this time for a reason much like traveling to distant past to see how the Drowned King was bound with the ancestor spirits in the Rite of Undying Pursuit.

Aidan asks about the Sky Shakers pack and Maugh tells them they went to the Spiral. At this point I went from apprehensive to outright fearful. It began to dawn on me what was happening here. Ronald (William) asks about it and Maugh only retorts that he’s a Fianna and he knows about the Rite of Passage all White Howlers do there.

Eli tells Maugh the truth about who we are and what happened to us. William describes the battle with the Drowned King and the Rite that was enacted that brought us here. Maugh is a little perplexed, but the Get outright dismiss us as drunks.

spiral entrance

In spite of the revelation, we still accompany them to the entrance of the Spiral. Contrary to what ideas I might have had about it and its appearance, it is simply a large hole in the ground. Aidan is visibly distressed at being at the entrance to the Spiral. He gets close to Eli and whispers that Bjorn has told him about a prophecy of the future. During this, Maugh and the others wonder why Aidan won’t enter.

Eli decides, at William’s suggestion, to Mindspeak with Aidan about what he was told and if it is what we think it is. Sure enough, Bjorn has told Aidan of the fall of the White Howlers. William decides to show the fate of the White Howlers to Maugh. He is visibly taken aback by this revelation. Maugh offers to set up camp and wait for the Sky Shakers to return to which Aidan agrees.

It’s obvious the Get are annoyed with this course of action. Knowing the Fall could happen here, Eli suggests that only our pack and the Get go in to prevent any White Howlers from being corrupted. We quietly ask if we should let the Get know, but Maugh tells us no due to it creating backlash against the Tribe.

Going with Eli’s suggestion, we decide to enter the Spiral. The Get insist to go first and we willingly let them. Eli tells Miguel and I to stay behind in case anything goes wrong we are to leave and warn everyone. As the Get charge in Crinos form, we shift and follow behind them. The pit is dark and the Get leap over something on the ground. John activates his fairy light and we see the body of a Garou, badly injured.

The Garou sounds out the Howl of Succor and we stop to tend to him. I heal him with Mother’s Touch, but while recovering from his wounds he begins the transformation into a Black Spiral Dancer. I quickly ask for him to be held down as I perform the Rite of Cleansing as a last resort in the hopes that it will stop the corruption.

Eli tells John to hold him down while the rest of the group goes forward to make sure the Get are fine. As I start the Rite, the corrupted Garou tells us he is Coruroc of the Sky Shaker pack. He is the White Howler who escaped the Spiral to tell the others before dying in our time. As I continue the Rite, he begins to speak. He looks at me and says: “you, Larid left a day ago. He went to find you. His secret is known.” I try to maintain my focus on the Rite as he speaks.

Ahead, Eli and the rest of the pack watch as the Get enter a vibrating dark light. He stops the group, unsure of what to do.

About halfway into the Rite, I can tell it is starting to work. Coruroc continues to speak: “He is wanting to finish the conception. He wants your seed to inherit the Earth.” The words are unnerving and I try to maintain my composure as I finish the ritual. Coruroc has been managed to be saved. Something that didn’t happen in our time. Still, it is obvious the experience of the Spiral and corruption has left more than a little crazed.

Eli returns with the rest of the group realizing that saving the Get is hopeless at this point. Coruroc wants to warn the Fianna and I agree to go with him. He tells us the Sky Shakers have gotten out. We return to Maugh and the other White Howlers telling them of the corruption of the Sky Shakers pack. We tell them they have become Black Spiral Dancers, inadvertently naming the Tribe.

Coruroc is pushing hard for warning the Fianna and evacuating any nearby kinfolk. He says the Spirals are going to the Sept to look for me. Aidan goes with Maugh and the others to warn the White Howlers and protect the White Howler kinfolk.

We realize Elizabeth is in danger and decide to head to her house, much to Coruroc’s disagreement. Arriving there, we find the house has been attacked. Entering it, a cooking pot has been knocked over and a fire is beginning to spread. It is obvious that the house will become engulfed shortly.

Heading towards the beach where we arrived, we see three Black Spirals holding Elizabeth hostage. They haven’t realized we are there and Eli decides we should attack. Leaping towards them, Eli manages to hurt one and knock the other away. We all shift to Crinos and begin to battle.

William quickly shifts to Hispo form and charges forward grabbing Elizabeth. As he does, he sees Coruroc in the distance running away from the battle as fast as he can. One of the Black Spirals grows silver claws and is immediately singled out. Eli and John take him down while Miguel and I tie up the other two. The fight is rough and potentially deadly, but we come out on top. I look down at the Black Spiral with silver claws. He has a J carved into his shoulder. It was Larid and I have helped this ancestor from falling to the Wyrm while Eli has prevent his line from being extinguished.

As the fight ends and we watch Coruroc run in the distance, we fell the now familiar pull of leaving our bodies. It was time to battle the Drowned King again.

Into the Past… (Game 17)

After exiting the cave, a blinding flash of bright light struck me and I found myself sitting across from a tan-skinned young man as we drank wine from goblets. I found myself confused and not sure of what to say as it looked as though I was placed here mid-sentence.

I looked about the room for a reflective surface as none of the surroundings appeared even remotely modern. I found myself staring back at a reflection I didn’t even know. The man across from me seemed just as confused. After several back and forth questions to each other, I finally tell him I’m Caitlyn. He responds that he’s Miguel.

As we are talking, an older woman came into the room and took the serving plate from me. She told me to not let the thugs under my employ lead me somewhere I’m not supposed to go. If I ran into to trouble, I was to find a Roman. She also worried about my brother causing problems and that I was to keep him quiet. I agreed to it and she began to lead us outside.

[In the present day…]

After returning from labors for the Sept, Jonathon found the kinfolk of the Sept hysterical. He asked them what was going on and they told him the pack was dead. Curious and a little upset, Jonathon headed to the beach to find it a disaster from the tidal wave.

Heading into the Umbra to commune with the spirits, he found no specific answers other than that they died fighting. Without any real leads, he left to the physical plane. Upon his return, the last thing he heard was a loud pop. He never seen his assailants.

[Back in 31 B.C.]

The other members of the pack sat across from each other in a tent with the same confused and disoriented look. The pack began interrogating each other, trying to piece together what had happened to them, as they found themselves in bodies they didn’t own.

As the argued amongst each other, Jonathon found himself in the past and tried to contact Tick. Hearing this, the rest of the pack began to realize what had happened to them. They somehow had been forced into bodies in the past. After inquiring how Jonathon got here, I’m lead into the tent by the older woman with Miguel.

At this point, Eli introduced himself to me with his possessed body’s name. I told him we were to go on a journey without diverting. Miguel tries to speak but the woman tells me to keep him quiet. I slyly ask the woman to reiterate the directions and our destination.

She tells us I am to be escorted to Longwhite to be betrothed to the Dacian. One of the men, who is obviously William, asks the woman who the king is in Longwhite. She clearly isn’t amused at this and just tells me to avoid the haunted village. She says this multiple times during the conversation. She kisses me on the head, leading me to believe it’s this body’s mother, and reiterates her earlier instructions to me before leaving.

We quickly acclimate ourselves to each other due to being in different bodies and decide we need to set off before discussing anything further. Before we can though, Jonathon decides to pierce the Gauntlet and check the Umbra for answers. Unfortunately, Jonathon gains nothing from the exchange other than that the Umbra is much more lush in this time and that we are on the Land by the Great River. He does find out we are near the Dead Sea.

Realizing that Jonathon has been gone too long and with no knowing of what is going on, Bjorn sends me to get him. I find out quickly this body is only a kinfolk and I cannot shift into the Umbra. Bjorn is forced to get him and we begin to set off on our journey.

As we begin to leave the encampment, we come across a young girl held in chains by two guards. She begins screaming for Eli saying he promised her freedom. One of the guards retorts by knocking her down and kicking her in the head. At that moment, Jonathon shifts into his Captain Amazing persona and Bjorn is forced to try to knock him out while Eli sorts things out with the guards. Realizing she could be of some use to us, Eli sets her free under the condition she lead us to Longwhite. Eli asks the girl about the haunted village, but the stares from others forces him to drop the subject.

Leaving the encampment, we begin heading north in the direction of Longwhite. As we traveled, we saw a fort in the distance. We debated on bringing supplies with us and in the end only brought what we could carry.

After two hours of traveling, we came across a man waving a stick around and walking in a circle. The man seemed to immediately recognize Bjorn and rushed to give him a hug. He asked if this was the rest of the pack and wondered what I was doing with the pack. He told us he had made preparations to move tonight, but he wasn’t expecting us early. He asked about the new girl and realizing she wasn’t Garou or Kinfolk we sent her away.

The man is Mihason, a wizard of the high order of Hermes. He explains he had provisions and spirit guides set up since he could not go to the village. We were heading to the village due to visions our bodies had. We were to go to the dead village and meet with the waiting pack. We were going to discuss the water beast, who I assumed was the Drowned King, and we were to bring two Kinfolk with the visions. Now understanding why we were here, we set off for the village, but not before retrieving the girl and leaving her with Mihason for three weeks. After which, the girl was to be set free in case we needed her in the future.

After traveling for an hour, we arrived at the dead village. Three individuals greeted us: Howls-Like-Ghost, a Child of Gaia, Adja, a Wendigo, and Aidan Farwatcher, a White Howler. They greet us cordially and Adja personally hugs each of us.

We gathered in nearby house, sat down, and drank as we were to recall our tale. Bjorn told them that we did not have our memories and we didn’t belong here. William retold the tale of the Drowned King, ironically naming him in the past. Aidan closely examines us and realizes we are telling the truth. Adja believes we have been summoned to our ancestors in order to help them with something. We ask our location and she tells us we are on the Danube River in Britannia.

It dawns on us that this will be the first appearance of the Drowned King. We tell Adja this will not be enough to fight him, but she reassures us more will come from the visions being sent to them like us. It will take some time, but we have the opportunity to prepare for it and learn anything we might need to fight it.

The next day, a Garou arrives named Lacresia. She is very motherly to Miguel and it slowly dawns on us that she is the Garou we saw disintegrated in the tunnels before arriving here. As days go by, two more Garou arrive, Varro and Rivous.

About a week in, Adja gathers us together near a fire one night as she believes she knows why we are here. A ritual she learned long ago from someone called the Undying Pursuit. It binds the spirits of those involved in the rite to something or someone, in this case the Drowned King, to fight it until it is defeated.

Over the following two weeks, more Garou arrive. They are Seeks-the-Truth, Not-Holds-the-Tongue, Thought Provoker, Cranham Slays-the-King, Cato Wordforger, and Anzo Honor-Protector. Most of us get along just fine, but Anzo constantly tries to provoke fights. Aidan stops him one time and Anzo, in an unknowingly prophetic statement, mentions he hope their tribe falls in the future.

During this time waiting on arrivals, we discuss our strategy to defeat the Drowned King. We know that he must be kept from water, completely out of it if possible. Jonathon suggests creating a dam in order to cut him off from the river. There is some talk of getting the spirits to help make the dam. Ultimately, we decided it would be best to talk to Mihason and use the wizards to do the task.

Going to Mihason in Longwhite, he wants eight Roman gold rings, viewing them as the finest crafted in the land. William agrees to it, in spite of having none of them, and that the fetching will take two weeks.

During this time, we learn the history of the White Howlers and the Wendigo. We find the White Howlers had savagery even in the past before the fall, but it was a very noble savagery. They also maintained brotherly relationships with the Fianna.

As time marches on, Jonathon suggests binding the Drowned King to a Talen. Adja is receptive to this idea, but tells him it will take many Theurges and the creature would have to be kept still for at least ten minutes.

We managed to achieve the rings through Miguel’s sleight of hand as the second month ended. Shortly after that, Atisha Anthony Tyrion arrives. She seeks an audience with Bjorn. Retreating into a private place, she passionately kisses Bjorn and tells him his exile from the Shadow Lords is complete. The Shadow Lords will be coming to destroy any Fianna in the area. She asks about the pack with the conflict between him and Eli for leadership. She asks about Neo. Bjorn just replies that Neo is Neo, and she just smirks saying he’s a typical Ragabash.

When we sleep that night, we have dreams as both our past selves and who we actually are at the same time. The dream is disorienting and confusing and ends with us waking up spitting water. The Drowned King is close and the others have had the same experience as well. The pack gathers together with the others and shifts into Lupus form to head for the gorge where we have prepared the dam. Miguel and I are forced to ride on horseback to the area.

Four hours into the travel, a tidal wave happens. It destroys everything in the area and prevents Miguel and I from arriving in time for the battle. After another four hours, the pack arrives to the epicenter of the tidal wave to find bloated, white corpse-like piles of flesh. They stink both physically and spiritually. The pack jumps into action trying to destroy them. Unfortunately, this appears to have to effect and they begin to gather together in the center of the river bed.

The flesh reforms and the Drowned King appears. All sides, Garou, Roman, Dacian, and otherwise, attempt to fight it. The battle proceeds like last time only worse. He is even stronger in this time period as Adja asks to start the ritual. Jonathon attempts to bind the Drowned King, but it is obvious he isn’t going to accomplish it in time. The battle is a massacre and Bjorn quickly calls for the ritual. Adja starts the ritual, dipping her hands in the blood of fallen Garou as she chants. Their spirits attach to the Drowned King as the power of the ritual takes her as well.

Miguel and I managed to arrive as the Drowned King submerges. All are dead. I realize the ritual is what weakened him in our time. There may be hope to beat him, even if we can’t do it. Everything goes white as I have this thought…

The Death of the White Lion’s Pride pack… (Game 16)

The day after the attack, we were all anxious. After tending to Cliff, he refused to stay at the cabin. He told us it would be best for him to stay in the public eye as much as possible. Since there was no Litany breaches in the attack, Cliff was able to convince local newspapers and authorities that a camper brought in a tank of propane to their room and smoked too closely to it. The resulting explosion caused the disaster. It was a flimsy excuse, but would do fine.

Another day passed and the Moot was planned for tomorrow. In spite of the hardships though, the kinfolk took the time to enjoy the cabin.

The day of the Moot came and Cliff dropped us off some items like bottled water and food to a drop point so we could pick them up undetected from all the workers who were undoubtedly beginning to fix the lodge. As he dropped off the goods, Cliff wasn’t certain about whether he should come to the Moot, but Eli insisted that he do.

We all prepared for the Moot that night. Ryan, Crafty, and Mackie gathered all of things for the Moot while Kyle hunted for the deer we traditionally gave to Lion. At 8:00 pm that night, we heard the howl of Crafty for everyone to gather. We all came to the Caern and began howling in unison until Crafty stopped. The fire was already going and Kyle brought forth the deer.

With that, Ryan called out to Lion. We must feed Lion as he feeds us. We donated our spiritual energy and I donated most of mine to the Caern. Kyle then gutted the deer and began the breaking of the bone. He asked if anyone had any Sept business to discuss which Crafty spoke up.

The time had come as the Sept grew for us to take on new responsibilities. There were many Sept positions open and they needed to be filled. He bestowed the position of Caller of the Wyld to Jonathon. The position entailed summoning Lion to the Moot and maintaining good relations with other spirits in the area.

He bestowed the title of Keeper to William. The Keeper works under Mackie to help keep the Sept clean and healthy. Crafty then offered the position of Talesinger. William volunteered for this position. The Talesinger was to relate the tales of deeds and failures in the Sept. I figured it would certainly be William’s kind of position being a Galliard and all.

Master of the Howl was up next for volunteers and John took up the role. The Master of the Howl was to summon all of the Garou to the Moot and end the Moot. John also took on the role of Gatekeeper. The Gatekeeper was the guardian of the pathstone for the Sept, which allowed Moon Bridges to arrive. He was to defend against forced intrusions to the Sept through Attack Moon Bridges.

The position of Den Mother or Father was offered up next and most of the pack agreed it should be me. I accepted, but the position was mostly ceremonial at this point since the Den Mother was supposed to watch over the cubs and help guide them through their Rite of Passage. Right now, that was only left Agnis, but I was more than willing to take the position.

Finally, the position of Master of the Challenge came up for grabs and everyone pretty much agreed it should be Bjorn. The Master of the Challenge was to oversee any challenges and make sure they were fair. No one objected to any of these positions.

Crafty then asked if anyone wanted the bone. We all took turns holding the bone and telling stories about our deeds in the past month. Bjorn speaks of the Dream of Death and how we followed it through. Eli tells of the Weaver threat and framing Carl Kolchak to prevent his death. I told of our journey into Wolfhome to get in touch with our wolf nature and work more effectively as a pack. John mentions saving me from the Chimare. William talks about the Dead Man’s Hand attack. Finally, Bjorn also mentions maintaining good relations with all of our kinfolk.

Mackie then makes our renown permanent and we allow the kinfolk to come as Kyle plays guitar again. The kinfolk have brought food and drink and we sit down to tell stories like last time. Cliff says he feels great being here with all of us, but he sadly has no tale to tell. Still, the park is doing great in spite of the attack although there is a possibility of a government shutdown in future and it could hurt things a little.

Gina also mentions her life is great and she would be willing to drop out of school to take up a Sept position. Lindsey also echoes this statement, wanting to take up a pack position herself since her uncle is a great Garou.

Ariel then tells a story of a mosquito trying to bite a bald man and him trying to kill it in response. Mackie then spins a similar tale about a fly and a bald man trying to kill it only to hit himself in turn. Both of the stories were about vengeance and the cost of it.

Ryan then told a story of an ant who fell into a stream. A dove seen this and rescued him. As they got to the edge of the stream, a hunter took aim at the dove and the ant bit him in the foot causing the hunter to miss. The message of the story was little friends may prove to be great friends.

Then, out of nowhere, John began to tell a story. However, it wasn’t his voice telling the story. He didn’t even seem aware that he was doing it. He told us the Tale of the Shaking Sea. It was about the Drowned King and the sacrifice it took to banish him from our world by our ancestors. After the lengthy tale had been told and we informed John of what had transpired, Kyle wanted to send the kinfolk back, but Mackie stopped him. He had heard this tale before and this may be why Lion had called us to the Sept. We had past lives and needed to resolve this before proceeding any further.

Crafty decides to have the kinfolk sent home and we escort them, but not Eli who Crafty calls over to him. As we walk back to the cabin, Cliff noticed the water had become black again. We were inadvertently tainting the water thanks to our connection to the Drowned King.

Crafty took Eli aside and told him we were no good to the Sept while the Drowned King connection existed. He would have to lead our pack to its destiny. He recommended we spend time with the kin before we take care of this.

As we returned to the cabin, Gina was scared and asked Bjorn what was going to happen. Bjorn mentioned the vision and our destiny. Ariel wanted to know about this and Bjorn told him it was similar to her visions. He tells her we must leave in order to protect them. Eli returned to us and told Lindsey to keep the other girls strong because she has done this longer. He then recommends we spend any time with the kin and learn any gifts or rites necessary

John then calls Regina on my phone and makes an excuse about having to leave for Oklahoma to take care of his sick Uncle and Aunt. Regina believes he is breaking up with her before John corrects her and tells he will beat up anyone dating her. She likes the response and offers to spend the night with him. He tells her to come to the forest and take a moonlight walk with him. The walk is short-lived and the pair have sex for most of the night.

William, Miguel, and myself return to the cabin that night. I chose to read my bible and think about my son. William sort of tried speaking to Ariel, but wasn’t very practiced at it. Bjorn went off with Gina to have sex that night, but it was obvious she was very scared of what might happen. Eli and Lindsey spent the night having sex, but she was stoic about the whole ordeal and believed we would be coming back.

We slept that night, but a nightmare interrupted our sleep. We found ourselves at Natural Bridges State Park again. This time a black mass came from the sea. It was like an oil spill that began to bubble up. Black tendrils suddenly shot out of it and touched the beachgoers. The people were killed instantly and no one can escape. We could only stand on and look in horror. We then awoke to salt water in our mouths like before, but this time even our kinfolk suffered.

The next morning, Eli went to ask Crafty if we had time to train before the battle, but Crafty just told him it was his choice to lead the pack. Bjorn asked if everyone had the same dream, which we all confirm. Eli wants to train and prepare for the battle, but Bjorn suggests we go now because the vision shows it happening around noon. Eli suggests we will go and check it out, but if nothing is there, we train. Regina leaves shortly after John wakes up and a small tremor strikes the Sept. While these things are common to California, I find them terrifying considering they don’t happen in Chicago.

Everyone gathers as we leave for the beach. Ariel is off to the side of the group and a little sad. Gina, however, is very sad to the point of tears. We all give hugs to the kinfolk and proceed on our way to the beach. Along the way, Eli tries to raise the morale of the group as another tremor strikes.

As we reach the beach, a much stronger quake hits. We’re knocked to the ground from the force, nearly injuring ourselves. We could see the water table had receded tremendously and knew a tsunami would be coming soon. We quickly ran to the natural bridge, looking for any humans, and shifted to Crinos to prepare for the devastation by digging our claws into the rock and interlinking our arms.

After five minutes, the wave finally comes crashing in. It is over 25 feet tall and the blast nearly knocks us off the rock. The water around us has gone black and in the distance, we could see a whirlpool form, 10 feet in diameter. The black water around us began to swirl and we begin looking for tendrils like the vision.

At the main whirlpool, a massive hand comes up, followed by the enormous Drowned King itself. We all channeled our ancestors and I chose to help my skills with fang dagger as I felt a familiarity to the ancestor spirit inside me.

The Drowned King looked on at us as we waited for it to attack. Then, it called forth miniaturized versions of itself to attack us. They charged towards the rock at blazing fast speed. I asked Quetzal to help us and he materialized in agreement. The tiny Kings attempted to blast us, but we dodged the attack, soaking any remaining injuries. We all leapt forward off the rock towards them and attacked.

It took several attempts, but we managed to kill the tiny Kings. However, the Drowned King had begun closing in on us. As I swam towards him, he attempted to blast me but I got out of the way of most of it. I then closed in to attack with John just behind me. Both of us attack, damaging the King slightly, but he summons a massive whirlpool around him that knocks most of the pack unconscious or severely injured.

William is swallowed by the Drowned King while John sees Gina, Lindsey, and Ariel arriving by car on the beach. We try to continue on, but another blast of the whirlpool forces me to channel Rage to cling to my life. Quetzal heals me, but in the process Miguel is killed by the Drowned King. We try to keep fighting, but the end comes for all of us.

We find ourselves becoming spirits and we can see ancestor spirits on top of the Drowned King fighting him. Then, everything turns gray and then into darkness. We find ourselves falling into an abyss and cannot speak to each other.

As we fall into the abyss, a light appears at the bottom. We pass through the light and then find ourselves falling through a storm into an ocean. We then fall through a hole in the ocean into a well. I could feel my body again as we feel deeper into the stone pit. I tried to grab onto the edge of the wall, but I only managed to slow my fall and hurt my claws.

I blinked and suddenly we were at the bottom of the well as it curved into a path. We got our bearings and began traveling down the path. After a brief walk, we met Smoke Paw. He looked disoriented and stares at the wall. Upon him seeing us, he asks us what we are doing here. We ask the same of him and he replied he was looking a gold ring on a stick.

We tell him about the fight with the Drowned King and how we died. We try telling him about the Skin Dancers and his death, but it only seems to aggravate him. Strange spikes appear above his eyebrows when this happens. I Sense Wyrm on him and he stinks of it. I try to communicate through Quetzal to Eli, but our connection has been severed. Our totem is no longer with us.

Bjorn tries to tell Smoke Paw he’s dead again and the strange changes happen to him again as he gets angry. A brief fight breaks out with Smoke Paw, but as we do, a fissure opens in the wall. From the wall, a creature made of metal and glass with two bodies fused at the back tries to attack us. We manage to slay it and I deliver the killing blow. Once it dies, it shatters and inside is the item Smoke Paw had been looking for.

After he grabs the ring, he realizes he is dead and his memories are returned to him. He had been trapped here and the creature that attacked us was trying to turn him into a Bane just like it. It partially succeeded and he is now a Bane, but with all of his former self intact. I try to do the Rite of Cleansing on him with the stick, but it has no effect.

A debate broke out about what we do with Smoke Paw. Bjorn wanted to have him destroyed as he is now an Agent of the Wyrm, but I said no, as we had no idea where we even were. We could have become Banes for all I knew. The decision was split, but ultimately Eli decided to let Smoke Paw remain as he said he would guard the entrance where we arrived.

We traveled from Smoke Paw for what seemed like hours. The tunnel around us became moist and the ground like wet sod. We could see footprints leading in front of us as we walked. It took a little thinking, but we realized it was prophetic. We were to head in the direction of them.

We followed them into what looked like a crystal cavern with plants. We continued walking until we came across the mostly dissolved form of a Crinos female.

“So far, so good. We’ll make the distance,” she said to us. “The next step is really a step, no matter how it seems.”

Eli asked her where we are.

“You’re almost there, not much further.”

We got ready to leave, but not before Bjorn asked if I would heal her. I tried to, but she objected. She was following a vision quest for a relative of hers named Juan. It’s too late for her now and she dissolved into a green mist after telling us this.

We continued, and the path became stone. At the end we could see what looked like outer space and a drop-off of the path. Beneath us, the Earth and the Moon spun wildly getting closer to us. Bjorn took the first step like the Garou told us and evaporated. I and the rest of us shortly followed, moving on to our next destination.

Send In the Clones and the Dead Man’s Hand… (Game 15)

As I drifted to sleep, Eli and the others continued to have fun in San Francisco. Eli took the time to tell Lindsey she had more to contribute than just getting pregnant. John, however, had to smooth things over with Regina as she had realized he left earlier. After Eli had his conversation with Lindsey, he requested I return, so I had Quetzal open a Moon Bridge and I returned to the hotel.

We all laid down that night and got some sleep. The next morning, we gathered all of our belongings together and Gina started to drive us home. As we were driving, my phone rang. It was Ariel and she asked to speak with Eli.

I handed the phone to Eli and Ariel told him she had a vision last night. She told him a man with a funny hat was piecing together information about Garou. He is not to be harmed, but if he learns the truth, it could lead to him being killed. If something bad happens to him, other will learn of it, and it could lead to the end of all Garou. She wasn’t sure if it was just the Garou in the area or all Garou in the world, but her vision showed dead Garou everywhere. These “others” don’t shift, but they have powers. They are watching him and he does not realize what he is stumbling into.

The phone call ended to Eli with Ariel reiterating the man had to be protected. Eli relayed the information through our link in Quetzal. Gina realized we had gone quiet and it had to be Garou related. She dropped Regina off and we told her we needed to get to Lisa’s house as the man with the funny hat had to be Carl Kolchak.

Arriving at Lisa’s, I asked Gina to send Lisa a text that we were stopping by so to not be frightened. We went into the backyard and started looking for the camera. It appeared the camera had already been taken as Lisa watched us look around the yard. I asked Lisa if anyone had taken the camera in the backyard without realizing she didn’t know. Obviously, this made her more frightened and I felt back for her since she was completely innocent in all of this. She told us she had not seen anyone so we told her the man from the night before wanted a picture of her father and we wanted to get him away from the house so we agreed to it.

After this reveal, Eli asked if he could use the bathroom, which made Lisa very scared. He pointed him in the right direction and Eli entered the house. She asked me if Eli was going to steal anything, but I assured her he wouldn’t take anything.

Eli quickly made his way to her father Tom’s room, but found he only slept there. As he returned to the backyard, he noticed his office and decided to investigate. Looking inside, he found various pay stubs. Some were from Rosemont and more recent ones were from Ferry Halim. They totaled about $4,000 to $5,000 a week with 16 hour days, which is about average for his neighborhood. A little more looking and Eli realized Tom had not been home in three days. Eli left the house and we told Lisa the man who was here last night wouldn’t be coming back.

We returned to the Sept that morning, filling the rest of the Sept in on Ariel’s vision and what it could mean. I looked up Ferry Halim on the internet to find they made a paid website with Flash games. It struck me as very odd Tom would need to be gone for three days straight, work 16-hour days for a simple Flash game and be paid that much so I mentioned this to the pack.

We pondered what it could mean for a while before John suggested we head to Carl’s hotel and ask him about it. In an odd coincidence, we found ourselves back at the Natural Bridges State Park area where the Motel 6 Carl was staying. As we walked up to his room, the door was halfway open and smoke was coming out of the room.

Inside, we could see Carl burning various photos he didn’t think were any good as his cameras sat on the bed. He then took a flash drive and began organizing the pictures he had taken. Eli knocked on the door and told him we are here to return the camera. He told us good job, even though we did nothing, and there was a twenty-dollar bill on the desk for us.

Eli offered to help Carl and he asked if he was a clone. At first, it was hard to believe what he said, but Eli told him no. He told Eli to show him his eye, which he did, and then the same to John. Realizing we weren’t who he was looking for, his drops that notion.

Pressing him further if we could help, Eli asks Carl to elaborate on what he is doing. He poses a theory about someone wanting to make a movie about clones. Carl had looked into a man named Seth Rosenbal, but didn’t find anything wrong about him. Later, he is found dead with two dots under his eye. A week later, another Seth Rosenbal is found dead, mangled and crushed at a local dump with three dots under his eye.

Looking into Ferry Halim, the last place Seth had been, he found the company had made upwards of $10 million dollars. More distressingly, it was donated high-level lab equipment not related to the business. Carl believes the government is somehow involved. After this, Lisa’s mother is killed in a car accident. Even later, a friend in the LAPD passes Carl information about a missing teenager so he looks into it. Shortly after this, his friend is killed and the friend’s son is mortally injured. He then mention a bunch of kids coming together from various places with no real common connection and that William is one of those kids.

Eli tells him we are not the kids he’s looking for so maybe we could help him since we can talk to the youth of the area without suspicion. Carl isn’t interested in it since everyone, save myself, gave him fake names last night. Carl says he has no more leads on the kids anyway, so he is going to look into an older woman who was hanging out with them. I knew this was Lindsey. I spoke up about all this, asking why he would even bother if the clones aren’t doing anything. Reiterating that it sounds like a movie, he believes Ferry Halim is behind it and the cloned kids are attempting to kill the original Seth Rosenbal to silence him.

Carl decides to offer us a $100 if we can find any information about the case and gives me the key to his apartment. Carl then left and Bjorn and William narrowly missed running into him. After getting back together, Eli realizes he may have sent Carl to Ariel’s vision by offering to look into the kids. While Eli looked for a car, I ducked out of public view and enact the Rite of the Questing Stone to track Carl.

It took a little work, but Miguel and Eli finally managed to get an SUV we could all fit into. In the back, three car seats were in the way and removing them revealed many bags of white powder, obviously drugs. With no time to think about it, we ignored the drugs and began driving towards my sensation of his location. The drive took longer than we had hoped and it was getting dark by the time we made it to the Ferry Halim building.

Ferry Halim building

We pulled up near the building and watched as Carl tried to coerce and bribe his way past a security guard. The guard was unwilling to listen and kicked him out, locking the door behind him. We followed him to a nearby Walgreens where he got some coffee and cigarettes. He just waited in his car as we decided what to do.

We spent several minutes debating on what to do, but nothing seemed any better than simply sneaking into the Ferry Halim building and finding what exactly Carl was looking for so we could throw him off. Security cameras panned back and forth in the front of the building and we finally decided to head to the back.

In the back, Bjorn watched carefully until the camera panned away before using Open Seal on a loading door. We all took turns carefully waiting until the camera panned away and made our way inside the building save for William who stayed at the SUV. The first floor didn’t appear to have anything except junk and paperwork, so we immediately made our way to the second floor.

Using my make-up compact, I used the mirror to peer around corners to avoid people. There didn’t appear to be anyone walking around, so we just continued dodging the cameras. Not knowing where Tom was, we ducked into a nearby office to look for a directory. There was no directory found, so I decided to once again do the Rite of the Questing Stone for Tom Carter.

As I worked on the Rite, John could hear voices in the next room. The voices appeared to be identical, like someone talking to themselves. After I finished the Rite, I was pointed in the direction of upstairs. Ignoring the voices, we headed upstairs to find Tom’s office.

After locating his office, we opened the door to find Tom sitting at his desk typing. He wanted to know who we are and we told him we were friends of Lisa. We told him Lisa was being watched and he needed to go home to be with his daughter as she is frightened. Tom was worried we were going to get in trouble so he told us he was going to try to get us out of the building and that he was fine.

Although Tom was telling the truth about being ok, we told him we would leave on our own so he wouldn’t get in trouble. As he closed the door to his office, we listened in to hear him talking about moving things. He said they knew we were here, although I figured he just meant regular people as Tom had no idea we were Garou.

failed clones

We decided to return to the room we heard the voices coming from. Inside, we opened the door to find a doctor standing in front of five identical people. One of them was a bit deformed, but the others appeared normal. They seemed to repeat whatever the doctor said save for the deformed one who grunted in pain.

Realizing we were there, the doctor questioned who we were and what we were doing here. We tried to make up an excuse about being here for Seth Rosenbal’s things, but he, Doctor Benny Walton, tells us Seth hasn’t been here in six months. The doctor looks as though he might call security when Bjorn just says we went to the wrong place and we’ll leave. We shut the door on our way out and listen in just like with Tom. We overhear Benny talking to someone named Lex about the situation.

tina carters body

Since we had clearly overstayed our welcome, we returned back to the back loading door to find it open. Realizing it had to be Carl, we turned around and I grabbed the stone I used for him to locate him. Finding ourselves back upstairs, we located a room that had a woman in a coma. Across from the room, we found a teenage girl named Tina who told us where Carl went. John tried hitting on her, but she replied she was married, and we figured she was a clone of Lisa’s mother.

As we continued through a server room, we managed to find Carl in a waiting room. Eli then had an idea to plant the drugs we found in Carl’s car so he would go to prison and be safe once we got him out of here. He told William through Quetzal to plant the drugs in Carl’s car which he complied.

We asked Carl what he was doing and he replied he was waiting for Lex. He finds it very odd we would show up, but we denied being any sort of clone and told him we were just going to talk to Tom about Carl’s stalking. We were going to leave before we realized Carl was here and came back to get him out of trouble.

Bjorn tries to convince Carl that they are willing to clone people illegally, and then they would be just as willing to kill him. Carl blew Bjorn off though by stating he was recording the whole thing on his black box. As a voice called out for someone to come in, John quickly grabbed Carl in a chokehold until he passed out. John, Eli, and Miguel made their way back out the building as Bjorn and I entered the office.

Inside we stood before an elderly man named Lex Baritune. We quickly found we didn’t have anything to say to him, that is, until he mentioned he knew we were Garou. Bjorn wanted to know why they were cloning people and Lex replied that everything including the clones were his. Lex then enacted a protocol while mentioning we started this war. I told him we didn’t have anything to do with the war he spoke about personally, but he said others had killed his clones.

Still, Lex wanted to know why we were here if not to destroy him. Bjorn told him of the vision sent by the Spirits that if Carl was killed, it would turn out bad for everyone. Bjorn tells him we are going to take care of Carl without killing him and he tells us security is off and we may go. Before we leave, Bjorn asks what exactly is he to which Lex replies he is a drone, an agent of the Weaver.

After the conversation, Bjorn and I start to make our way out. We passed by Tina’s room and she asked where we are going. Bjorn said we had to leave and Tina took this to mean it included her as well. She asked if she had time to pack some things and I initially said no. She looked bummed out about not taking her things as we paused, but after thinking about it for a second, Bjorn realized we should take her with us to get answers from Tom. She gathered up her belongings, said goodbye to her “mom” in the other room, and we left the building.

John placed Carl back in his car and took his camera from him before we called the police. Afterwards, we got into our stolen car and headed back to Santa Cruz. As we drove back to Santa Cruz, Bjorn tried to call Tom from Tina’s phone. However, before we could make a destination, the phone went dead. Bjorn asked Tina if she knew what was going on there. She replied that she was aware she was a clone and she had been artificially aged until 8 months in order to prevent what happened to the other clone.

After her explanation, Tina’s phone rang and Bjorn answered it. On the other end was Lex who wanted his phone back. He mentioned they are far enough along with the development of the program to not need Tina anymore. Bjorn asked if Tom was going to be ok which Lex replied he would. Bjorn asked if Lex would tell Tom to come to the beach near his house and Lex said he would tell him. When it came time to decide how to return the phone, Lex told Bjorn to just destroy it.

We drove to the beach outside Lisa’s house and Tom met us there. Tina ran up to him and hugged him. Tom sent her to a nearby bench to wait while we talked to him. He told us he had been fired, but given severance pay. Tom went to work on what he thought was an AI for a game. During this time, his wife died in a car accident and Tom realized the program was for mapping brain patterns. While he never mentioned it, I could only assume at this time he offered his wife up for the program.

The program caused the brain to accelerate growth over the course of eight months until the clone was fully developed. Some of them failed after trying to accelerate the growth beyond that time frame like the woman in the other room. The company was under the direction of Mr. Catilades.

After hearing the entire explanation, I raised concerns about the ethics of what he has done. I told him he should have just let his wife die. Even if I could bring back my foster parents, I wouldn’t do it. I felt it was morally wrong to play God. He replied that he would make it work and introduce Tina to Lisa as his niece, which didn’t sound any better to me. He told us he wouldn’t interfere with our lives and vice versa, but we told him we would continue to remain friends with Lisa regardless. Tom went over to Tina and the two left.

Afterwards, as we started to leave, Arne and his pack approached us. They told us they know where we had been and they had been following us. They asked what we had seen and we told them honestly. They wondered why we didn’t destroy the entire place, but we could only tell them we followed the vision given to us by the spirits. One of his pack said they didn’t believe us and naturally, William retorted.

Arne asked if William had something to say. We knew they were trying to taunt us into a fight and even William went silent at this. They believed the clones are soulless and the perfect hosts for an army of fomor. We reiterated that we believed in what the spirits said, as we had to follow it. Still, Arne tried to goad us into fighting, but we wouldn’t give in. Seeing that we wouldn’t fight, Arne told his pack to leave. Bruce told us to say hi to Kyle if he was still alive, but Arne quickly made him stop.

After the pack left, a girl came up to us in amazement. She had seen the entire conversation and she was surprised we didn’t fight. We realized she had to be a Garou and she introduced herself as Spot. She belonged to the Sept of the Stone Sea. She told us to not sweat it as the Sept of the Silver Fury were good at fighting, but terrible at talking to anyone. She then told us she had to follow them so she would see us later. She shifted into Lupus form, which looked a little mangy making me think of the Bone Gnawers, and darted off towards their direction.

We returned to the Sept that night and I took some time to meditate. After that, we went to the cabin and told Crafty what had happened. Crafty told us pretty much the same thing as Spot did and to not sweat it. At that moment, my phone rang and it was Cliff. He asked for some help moving something, but he needed just one of us. It sounded odd, but I told him Eli would come up to the lodge.

Not trusting the way Cliff sounded, I suggested someone else go with Eli in secret and John chose to go. Eli traveled to the lodge in Homid form while John followed behind in Lupus form. As Eli got ready to open the door, a shot rang out and he was hit with a silver bullet through the shoulder. Eli told Quetzal to send for help.

Quetzal alerted us to the attack on Eli and we quickly ran towards the lodge in Lupus form. Another shot rang out, and the damage dropped Eli unconscious. John told us there were more of them in the bawn as he snuck up on one. At that point, a man in military gear walked up to Eli’s body, zip tied him with a silver cord, and dragged him inside the lodge. He then asked his men to call for another one.

By this time however, we had left the cabin and there was no one to answer the phone. Realizing we were on to them, the apparent leader told them to head back to the lodge. The man John was watching started laying out playing cards on the ground. John quickly responded by attacking and killing him. He then charged up to the lodge towards two men who headed off in different directions around the lodge.

Choosing the right path, he ran up on one who held out something in his hand and dared John to attack. John tried to grab the man’s hand and attack, but could only attack him. The man pushed the button on the device he was holding and caused a massive explosion on one of the top levels of the lodge. John quickly finished the man off and headed to the back of the lodge.

At this time, we arrived and saw the explosion. We all rushed in. John quickly had Quetzal heal Eli as he undid his bindings while I grabbed a fire extinguisher and headed upstairs with Bjorn. Thankfully, all of the guests had left. We found Cliff, beaten and tied up to a chair. There was a timer with a bomb wrapped around him. Bjorn quickly pulled the bomb off and threw it out the gaping hole in the wall while I put out some of the fire. Once the bomb hit the ground, it created a large crater in the ground and could have obviously leveled the remainder of the building.

I got Cliff to safety and took the tape off his mouth. I realized he was hurt pretty badly so I healed him with Mother’s Touch as he mentioned something being in his pocket. I reached in his pocket and found five playing cards. They were Aces and Eights, commonly known as a Dead Man’s Hand. As I helped Cliff out of the lodge, Bjorn asked who they were. He didn’t know, but he could tell they were military and specially trained.

As the fire department arrived, we quickly disposed of the bodies while they put the fire out. We confiscated any of their gear that was useful. They were packing some serious gear like assault rifles with silver bullets, silver knives, and grenades laced with silver fragments. It was obvious they weren’t affected by the Delirium and knew how to kill Garou.

We made arrangements to get the kinfolk back to the cabin for safety. Back at the cabin, Crafty is the only one who knew who they were. They are called Dead Man’s Hand and they are agents of the Wyrm. We now knew how important it would be to strengthen the Sept. I sat for the rest of the night taking care of Cliff realizing how close we came to losing both kinfolk and Garou.

Sharks, Love Making, and Creepers… (Game 14)

After everything that had happened to me, I slept that night peacefully. I awoke early in the morning as Kyle was taking Miguel and William on bawn patrol. Jonathon continued to study with Ryan on his Rites.

As it became afternoon, Kyle gathered Bjorn, Eli, John, and myself together for more klaive duel training. He showed us a new move called a feint. I paired off with Bjorn as usual and John and Eli paired up. We took turns practicing our feint maneuver.

Once we were comfortable with the new technique, Kyle gathered us together. He wanted to create a sort of mock tournament with us utilizing all of the techniques we had learned. I was paired up against John and Eli was against Bjorn.

My match with John went horribly. We squared off in Homid form and my size and strength cost me dearly. I wasn’t invested in hurting John since this was merely a practice. I tried to disarm, but was disarmed in response. I channeled my Rage to shift into Glabro form, one that I rarely used to equalize the battle, and grab my weapon. I came back to attack again with a solid feint, but John managed to knock me out with a strike to my head.

Kyle stopped the fight and woke me up. I shifted back into Glabro to heal up and reflect on my loss. While I rested, Bjorn and Eli fought. The battle continued much longer than my fight with John. It was a back and forth fight until Kyle yelled at Eli to consider the loss of his packmates that could happen in a fight. This pushed Eli to fight harder. He channeled his Rage and finally overcame Bjorn.

What happened next was a bit of shock. Kyle flipped out saying that Eli could have ended the fight, that we weren’t taking it seriously, and we were worthless. He threw his bat into the woods and went into the bawn. After my loss, it certainly didn’t make me feel any better.

Mackie heard the commotion and opened the cabin door. He called us over and asked about our dueling. We told him things were going fine until Kyle lost it. He then asked if we wanted to talk with him.

Initially, no one spoke up. We really didn’t have much to talk about until Eli mentioned being outnumbered by the other Septs and what do we do. Bjorn also wondered about balancing everything in life. Mackie decided it was time for a drink and a chat. Although I was a bit more accustomed to drinking, I still didn’t prefer it, but it was best not to be difficult about things.

Mackie told the rest to get things ready in the cabin as he had me walk with him. He told me about how he seen me lose and not to take it too hard. He elbowed me a little, as he said, “not that he knew anything about losing.” I know he was trying to cheer me up, but it didn’t really help as losing here might mean losing later, and I didn’t want to risk not being about to help and protect my pack.

We all sat down together and took a drink as Mackie laid down the hard truth. He admired us for going to school and holding down jobs, but being a Garou comes first. We needed to grow up because these things would cause us problems, especially the human relationships. I didn’t like that notion because without any real joy or happiness in our lives I thought you would be more prone to Harano. Still, I continued listening intently.

The battle with Samuel Haight was great and we were recognized for this, but these things happen all the time so we shouldn’t dwell on it. There would be another fight and they typically came to you instead of you looking for it.

Eli asked about respecting those of greater rank and vice versa. Would we always do as they say? Mackie told us no, but we would have to remain respectful in our answers. Unfortunately, as Mackie told us, this could create an enemy for life if we weren’t careful.

Bjorn asked about the Mages after meeting them in my Chimare. Mackie knew nothing of them as they were simply not in the homeland. We took another drink and Mackie told us it was fine that we were doing things that we wanted to do like jobs and school, but just to remember to be Garou first. With that, we took a double shot and left the cabin, finishing our discussion with Mackie.

After this, I needed to arrange a date with Kenith. I was somewhat nervous as this would be my first real date with a guy since before my pregnancy. I called the law office and got a secretary. I arranged for the date to take place Friday and to be picked up at the Worstell Hotel.

Eli borrowed my phone afterwards and decided to quit his job, dedicating himself entirely to Garou affairs. I suppose it was a good notion for him, but I couldn’t do it. We spent the rest of the day doing minor things around the Sept before heading to sleep.

As we slept, we were all given the same vision of a natural bridge near the ocean. Hellhounds appeared taunting us with the threat of our impending death. Their insides exploded and a huge worm with teeth appeared. I felt like I was drowning and awoke to choking on seawater. I spit it out as we all woke up at the same time.

We woke up everyone at the Sept to tell them of the vision we seen. Mackie told us that spirits send visions. We mulled over what it could mean. Some thoughts included things about vampires and the Wyrm, but Crafty said to not worry about it. Things would take their course.

With that, Mackie noticed the bottled water had turned black. The water was a black, sludge like consistency from being slightly tainted by the Wyrm. Crafty looked worried and headed into the back, near the river. He returned saying things appeared fine with the water. As Mackie poured out the tainted water, it created ripples moving in the direction of the ocean. Mackie told us it was a message. I asked if I should cleanse the water to prevent it from spreading farther into the Sept, but Mackie said the taint was minor and to not worry about it.

With that, Eli had me take us into the Umbra. I was a little worried since I didn’t have as much spiritual strength as Jonathon, but I managed to do it quite successfully. At least I was able to do one thing right today. We headed towards the river and noticed no water spirits. There was Wyrm taint in the river on the bawn, but it had not made it to the caern. What was more disconcerting was that Mabe had not detected anything. We left the Umbra and decided to cancel our dates to investigate our vision.

I felt bad rescheduling after I had just made the date. I made up an excuse of a sewer problem and told Kenith’s secretary I would call back to reschedule. John called Regina, who was agitated about not seeing him. The kinfolk took it a lot better knowing the stakes involved.

The vision happened at night, so we had time to kill. Eli and I went into the caern to meditate. I replenished with spiritual energy I could from the spirits. John tried to contact his ancestors and learn about the worm we seen. It would normally be a sea lamprey feeding on sea creatures, but this one was obviously supernatural. He also learned that the Celtic hellhounds were a representation of death much like the Grim Reaper was to us in America.

With ourselves prepared, we headed to the Natural Bridges State Park. There we saw the bridge from our dreams. We waited throughout the day as beachgoers enjoyed their time. However, as it got dark, the beachgoers seemed to get uneasy and some looked sick. They left as night fell and we climbed the natural bridge to get ready for what was coming.

I could tell the water was tainted and it was rising unnaturally. It only came up around the bridge where we stood. We all shifted to Crinos form and prepared for the inevitable. Without warning, a high-pressure jet of water came from nowhere and stuck Eli hard.

From the ocean, a massive water elemental rose up. It had to have been 25 feet tall at least. John leapt onto the water elemental attacking it and managing to stay on it with effort kicking his feet. I was nervous as I had never encountered anything like this before. I wasn’t even sure if I could leap far enough to hit it. Still, we all leapt at it and I managed to get to it.

We all worked at striking it, but I was faring no better at fighting than I was the day before. John’s legs gave out and he dropped to the ocean floor. Things were not looking good as sharks appeared beneath the elemental. Instead of attacking us, they attacked the water elemental. Eli managed to deliver the finishing blow to the manifested spirit and we tumbled to now normal ocean.

As we made our way back to the beach, two of the sharks shifted into Homid form. I had never heard of other shapeshifters before so this was eye opening for me. One of the two came forward and held a necklace that seemed to enable him to talk to us in our heads. His name was Great Tooth, he was a Rokea, and he had been following and fighting this elemental since it manifested in the physical world.

He had been near the beaches waiting for what he called a dirtwalker. We inquired about what that was and he told us it was a Rokea who stayed on land instead of the sea. He would stay for three turns of the Great Wound. We asked what that meant and he drew us a picture of the sun. He would be here for three days until he found the dirtwalker.

We asked what could make the elemental of such power and he told us it was the drown one, also known as the sunken king. We asked if we could help, but the Rokea implied for us stay out of it. We chatted with him a little more and learned a little of their language and how they describe the Triat. Great Tooth’s partner sounded off for him to return and he left without saying a word.

With our work done, we returned to the Sept to tell Mackie. He told us again that things would come to us. We rescheduled our dates. Eli was concerned with me being distanced from the pack, but he devised a way to be near in case something happened. Quetzal also had the ability to open a Moon Bridge right to their location so things were ok.

We all got ready for our dates the following morning. I got myself dressed in the dress I had bought with Gina and we gathered up. Gina picked us up, and then picked up Regina. We tried chatting a little with her on the way there, but it was mostly unimportant small talk. It was obvious we really didn’t have much in common. Gina dropped me off at the hotel and I waited for Kenith to have me picked up.

Right at about 1 pm, a white limo approached and a female chauffeur came out. She asked if I was Caitlyn and I told her yes. She said Kenith had things to do for the day and she was to get me ready for our date. We went in the limo to a store called Neiman Harris. There, a man was waiting for us and the chauffeur gave him a credit card. He was told to find me a dress. Even though I already had one on, I went ahead with it.

I got a lovely black dress that went down to about my knees. It was a modest dress and I appreciated the fact it wouldn’t demean me. After getting my dress, it was paid for on the credit card and we left to head to a salon to get my hair done. They did a wonderful job feathering my hair and making it fuller. After this, I was taken to get my nails done with a full manicure and pedicure. They painted them a wonderful candy apple red.

Once this was done, I was taken to a spa where they gave me a full body treatment. I sat in a sauna for a while, then had a mud bath, followed by a full body message. I had never been pampered like this before, but it was great. I had only seen this kind of thing on TV and it was better than it looked. After my spa treatment, the chauffeur took me on a tour of San Francisco. It was nice to get to know the area so I wouldn’t be lost the next time I visited. I was eager to see Kenith.

[Eli, Bjorn, and John’s dates…]

Eli and Bjorn decided to go to a different restaurant than John as he took Regina to Red Lobster. At the restaurant with John, Regina asked him if they were an item. She said they weren’t spending enough time together and she wasn’t sure if she should be looking for other guys. John just told her to tell other guys she had a boyfriend and he would murder them if they tried anything. Satisfied and obviously turned on, they abruptly left the restaurant.

Eli and Bjorn sat with Lindsey and Gina at their restaurant. Lindsey asked Eli if she should quit her job and focus more on school. She felt she would be worthless if she couldn’t conceive or get a good job. If she stayed at her job, her boss had obvious designs on having sex with her, but without a job she wouldn’t have any money. Eli offered to take care of her and told her she would never be worthless.

Bjorn spoke with Gina about a conversation involving No Hands and her mother. She overheard them talking about the Shannon Johnson incident. Apparently, No Hands had managed to smooth things over and Lightning Claws was treating her better. No Hands believed it was a ploy by Prestige to stir up trouble and gain more allies in the Sept of the Three Waters. From that, he would cause more trouble and build more allies. It was obvious Prestige was trying to take over leadership of the Sept and the White Lion’s Pride pack was just collateral damage in the process.

After eating their food, Bjorn contacted John and told him they were going to the Golden Gate Bridge to watch the sunset.

[Back to Caitlyn…]

For dinner, Kenith’s chauffeur took me to a restaurant named Harris. I had never heard of it, but I could tell from the outside it was expensive. I sat around for what had to have been 20 minutes when Kenith finally showed up. He apologized for being so late, but I didn’t hold it against him since I had to postpone our date yesterday.

We ordered some wine and began to have a pleasant conversation. He wanted to know about me and I told him many things, obviously lying a little here and there to not break the Veil. I didn’t want to tell him my true location so I fudged an address around the area. Still, he paid close attention and I could tell he was actually interested in me instead of just sex.

The waiter came back and Kenith ordered some veal. I wasn’t sure what to order so I told them to give me the same. I asked him about himself and he told me he was studying to be a lawyer. He worked for his father and whatever he didn’t spend on his business account he was able to use for himself. It allowed him to provide these nice dates. The veal came and I got to try it for the first time. It was really tender and very good. Of course, I would haven’t expected any less considering how upscale the restaurant was.

[At the Golden Gate Bridge…]

Bjorn used his new gift Open Seal in order to break into one of the towers on the Golden Gate Bridge. The couples were having a good time as they sat and watched the sunset. Regina though, seemed antsy, and it was obvious she wanted to spend some quality time with John. John stalled for a little bit and asked the other packmates about getting a somewhat cheap hotel. Lindsey offered to do so, but Eli told her not to do it. Eli used some money and had Lindsey get three rooms at a cheap, but not bad hotel.

With each of the couples in their own rooms, they all had their sexual encounters with each other. Lindsey and Eli had a blast while John and Regina went at ferociously. Bjorn was trying to get Gina to go a little wilder and she asked him to turn on the TV so no one would hear them. Bjorn turned on the TV and started having sex when a breaking newscast came on the TV. Bjorn stopped for a brief moment to hear the news.

The newscaster said that Officer Kent Wells had been killed during a foot chase with a suspect. At the same time, his son Brent accidently fell out of his second story bedroom window, hitting the pool deck and suffering severe brain damage. Brent was in a coma at the time and the newscaster sent his regards for a speedy recovery for Brent.

Gina asked if something was wrong, but Bjorn just told her it was nothing, thinking it involved William. In truth, it did involve William, and someone was obviously covering William’s tracks. Who did it though, was unknown to the pack. Afterwards, the couples finished up having sex and went to bed.

[Back to Caitlyn…]

After finishing most of my meal, Kenith offered to have dessert. I accepted, but I didn’t know what to order. He suggested the crème brûlée, which I had only heard of, but not ever tried. They brought the flaming custard out to us shortly after ordering. It was actually delicious and lemon flavored.

After finishing our dessert, Kenith offered to give me his personal number. He opened up his briefcase and I saw a picture of Logan’s father from the vision I had that one night in the Sept. He looked older, for obvious reasons, but I was sure it was him. I didn’t say anything to him about it, but I wondered what Kenith had to do with him. He then gave me two numbers, a pager number and his personal cell phone. The pager was for emergencies.

After giving me a number, he asked if there was anything I wanted to do. I suggested we could watch a movie at his place. We headed back to his apartment, which was pretty nice. We sat down to watch Pretty Woman, which there was a slight bit of irony not lost on me. He popped some popcorn in an older air popper and sat it down next to me.

After a little while of watching the movie, I decided to climb on top of him and make love to him. I had just recovered from losing my mind entirely and I wanted this. He was a bit cool to the touch, but was very good at treating me right. We had sex for quite some time, switching positions several times, before I felt satisfied. With that, I feel asleep next to him.

[Back to the hotel…]

Bjorn was awoken to the sound of Gina’s phone ringing. Checking the caller id, he realized it was Lisa. He woke Gina up and she talked on the phone for a moment. There was obvious concern in her voice. She said to stay calm and she would send the guys over. Hanging up the phone, she told Bjorn that Lisa was frightened by a guy creeping around her house.

Bjorn got the rest of the pack up and gathered them together. John snuck out, not wanting to wake Regina up. He left a note going out to get some food in case she woke up.

I awoke to Quetzal telling me to meet up with the pack. I quickly got dressed in my old dress and found Kenith watching TV. I told him I didn’t realize how late it was and I needed to go. He asked if anything was wrong. I kissed him and told no and I would contact him later. I grabbed up my belongings and headed out of his apartment. I ducked into a back alley and had Quetzal make a Moon Bridge to the rest of the pack.

After getting together with the rest of the pack, Quetzal once again opened a Moon Bridge to an alleyway near Lisa’s house. We made our way to her house and ducked into the backyard. There, we saw a man attempting to attach a camera to a tree pointing into her house. John shook the tree and the man finally noticed us.

He asked us what we were doing and Eli responded asking the same of him. He told us he was doing his job as an investigator. We asked him his name and he responded with Carl Kolchak. He asked us ours. I didn’t mind giving him my real name, but the other pack members chose to give him fake names, which clearly made him annoyed.

The conversation went back and forth for a while with him demeaning us about being kids and us telling him his actions were illegal before we finally got to the important aspect: William. He had been looking into William’s appearance at the Fourth of July party. Bjorn mentioned if he had anything to do with Kent Wells. He said yes and Bjorn mentioned he died tonight and his son was severely injured. Carl responded that Brent had died at midnight.

The pack was clearly getting agitated before I finally stepped forward and tried to politely ask him what he was doing. I told him we only seen William during the party looking to spend his money before heading south.

He merely wanted a picture of Tom Carter, Lisa’s father. He thought he might have something to do with William, but it seemed like he was implying there was something more. Still, we agreed to let him take his picture, though it may be some time since Tom worked late on software development and Lisa’s mother had died a year ago. We told him we would give his camera back tomorrow at 5 pm so he wouldn’t have to return and scare Lisa again. He agreed to this and tipped his hat to us, leaving in a beat-up car.

I went into the house and found Lisa. I told her things were going to be all right. With things taken care of, the rest of the pack headed back to the hotel to spend time with their girlfriends. I had Quetzal open another Moon Bridge back to the Sept since I didn’t want to be a fifth wheel. It had been a couple of days of ups and downs, but I laid down that night glowing with happiness from the night with Kenith.

I hoped the rest of the pack had a fun time as I said a prayer for myself and fell asleep…

Into Caitlyn’s Chimare and Between a Rock and a Hard Place… (Game 13)

We returned to the Sept after Star Screamer gave us the herbs needed to help me enter the Chimare and find my memories. We would do it at night when we slept so Eli took the opportunity to visit Lindsey and make sure she was all right. Jonathon and William went with him while the rest of us returned to the cabin.

Once we arrived at the cabin, we found Crafty, Ryan, Kyle, and Mackie talking to several individuals. I struggled to remember any of them at the time, but I could remember who Kyle and Mackie were. We chose to stay back, listen in, and not interrupt. They talked about how our Sept was weak and now since the caern had been strengthened, the Wyrm would now be alert to our Sept.

The conversation obviously showed they were Garou, but we had never seen them before. The banter went back and forth. One of the Garou named Arne told Crafty they carried the fight alone and with the Wyrm drawing closer, we were a weak link in all of the other Septs. Crafty defended us, telling Arne we had already grown much in the few months we had been there. He said we were doing things the old way and to give us more time.

The words rang hollow with the Garou and they mentioned if the roles were reversed, we would kill them. Kyle defended us saying that isn’t true and he looked ready to fight. One of the Garou named Bruce drew in close to Kyle and began to stare him down. It was obvious the full moon was tonight and tensions were running hot.

Another of the Garou named Hansen said they should just kill us all and be done with it. He motioned towards Kyle while speaking to Ryan about how Kyle is going into Harano. The term was unfamiliar to me, although at the time everything was unfamiliar to me. Our Sept was drawing evil and it would only be a matter of time before something happened.

Mackie spoke up at that moment, blaming the strife on the Silver Fangs and it looked like things were getting out of hand. Crafty managed to get them to leave and Arne agreed as nothing was getting resolved at the moment and they would return to finish us. Kyle once again took this opportunity to defend us and the Sept saying he kill any who tried. Bruce took this as another chance to insult Kyle again. Crafty managed to calm the situation down again and the Garou left without incident.

Kyle began to walk away and Ryan asked if he was ok. He made a sexual comment and then headed into the woods with a smile. With that, we approached the Sept elders and asked what the conversation was. Crafty then told us things were looking bad all around. The Silver Fangs wanted our Sept land for a staging ground for battles. The Sept of the Three Waters support was weakening and they may withdraw if we don’t do something to prove ourselves. In addition, the Sept of the Angry Earth didn’t like us and the only thing stopping them from attacking us was the threat of the Sept of the Silver Fury using it as an opportunity to take them over.

None of our other options looked good either. We could ask the Glass Walker Sept up north, but none of the other Septs trusted them and it would just make us look worse. Mackie said we would have to become aggressive with the Sept of the Three Waters to show them our worth. We would also have to build allies within the Sept to keep the support strong. Ryan then asked if I got my head fixed. I wasn’t, but Bjorn assured him by tomorrow I would be.

Before we left, Bjorn asked in what way we would be aggressive with the Sept of the Three Waters. Mackie said he didn’t know yet, but it would have to be something to prove our worth. Bjorn also asked about Harano. Mackie said it is the only real sickness a Garou gets. It is different for every Garou and they either come out of it or fall. Some warning signs were depression and isolation, which Kyle certainly fit. Still, it was too early to make such a presumption. Crafty asked where Eli was and Bjorn told him he was taking care of some business with Lindsey.

For the rest of the night, John fished for his spirit quest with Cat while Bjorn placed his object for Finneus. With the whole William disaster, the rest of the pack besides myself, worked on finding a way to cover the tracks of William. They realized they would have to create a fake id for him and Bjorn asked if anyone could do it. Surprisingly, Miguel was able to do this. It was the first time he had really spoken up about anything. It took some work , but he was able to make an excellent fake id that changed William’s name to Robert William Thomas. We needed to keep his middle name William since other people had been introduced to him as such. After that, Yoder returned and it was time to find my memories.

We gathered together in the cabin and began to burn the herbs Star Screamer gave us. We laid down and went to sleep. Once we did, things became hazy and a smoke appeared in my dream. I realized I had to be in the Chimare we had been told about as the others were there as well. In the distance, we could hear singing.

Cat's Choir

The singing sounded like a church choir and we began to walk in the darkness to it. As we did, we heard clapping. We continued until the smoke began to clear and we were in a church. The choir stopped singing as I saw myself step forward and began singing a solo piece. My voice was angelic and it was surreal to be watching myself sing. We looked around the room and seen two exits behind the stage. We moved towards the one on the left and no one seemed to pay us any attention.

Entering the door, the smoke returned and we could hear a male voice talking. The smoke cleared and we saw a man pushing a young girl on her bike while he talked to a woman. They argued about how he was never around and he was spending the entire day with the little girl before the woman went inside the house. I couldn’t remember who they were, but Bjorn mentioned they were my parents likely. The neighborhood was pretty nice and once they got out of sight, we went into the house. The woman was now on the phone and mentioned someone was here before the world faded to darkness again.

cats last boyfriend

We could hear the voice of a boy before it turned into many. The smoke cleared and we found ourselves in a school. Just down the hall, we could see myself at my locker with a boy leaning on the next locker. I could almost remember the boy, but it wasn’t clear. The rest of the pack assumed it was the boy who fathered my child, but even that didn’t make any sense at the time to me. He introduced himself as Keith. The boy made small talk about me singing in the church choir and tried some pick-up lines on the vision of me. I blushed at the notion in both the memory and in person. After that, the world faded again.

The smoke cleared again and we found ourselves in front of a door. We opened the door to see a Sunday school with preschool children. I sat at the end of the table, reading the story of Noah and the Ark to the children. After that, I was helping the children color pictures. One of the children cried at his picture of a dog because his dog had recently died. I told him we could get a picture of an elephant so he wouldn’t be sad and we could color him yellow. The child said pink instead since he knew it was my favorite color. Eli mentioned that he didn’t realize I had always been a nurturing person, which made me feel better about myself. The memory faded to black.

caitlyns old bed-room1

The smoke began to swirl around now and the world reformed much faster this time. We found ourselves in a room that I could remember as my own. There were spelling bee trophies all around and the room was very girly with pink bedding and upholstery. A memory of Keith and me walked into the room and began stripping their clothes off. I felt a little embarrassed at the pack seeing this, but I didn’t want to say anything. I remembered some of this night. Keith told me he loved me that night and I was nervous about having sex for the first time. He told me we could wait, but I told him it was okay since we would be together forever. Thankfully, things returned to darkness before we could watch anymore. I knew the guys would want to watch, but I’d always been a private person about that kind of thing.

The smoke was swirling violently this time. As it faded, we found ourselves in the toy section of Wal-Mart. A little girl could be seen crying. She wore a pink and white dress and couldn’t have been more than seven years old. She looked up at us and it was the first time one of the memories could see us. I asked her what was wrong and she said she couldn’t find her parents. We offered to take her to the service center where they could page her parents. I took her by the hand and began to lead her as the memory went black.

The smoke was now pouring in and when everything returned, I could see myself angry and crying. I yelled at my parents for not telling me I was adopted. They told me I was special because they chose me. I sat between them and cried as they held me. The memory then faded to black.

A shot of smoke jetted across from us as the world reformed. We were in the kitchen of my house. My parents were fighting about bills and my father being away all the time. The fighting continued, getting harsher as we turned to leave. There, at the steps, we could see a young version of myself listening to conversation with a sad look in my face. Things went black again.

The smoke was beginning to get darker now. When the world reformed, we found ourselves on the outside of my house by the porch. I seen myself on the porch with red eyes, crying from my conversation with Keith. He denied the child was his and that he had heard the rumors. I assumed the rumors may have been about myself being easy. I went into the house and slammed the door causing the world to go black.

The smoke came in like a tidal wave now. As it faded away, we found ourselves back in my room. I was crying about Keith’s denial of my child. My mother handed me a gold cross and bible that belonged to her grandmother once. I hugged her and told her I loved her and everything went black again.

This time, there was no smoke and things faded in. A memory of myself was standing in front of a baby, my baby. He sat in the rocking chair with his Tigger stuffed animal making cooing sounds. I smiled at him and kissed him on the forehead. I told him mommy would be back soon and began to leave. A couple there told me they would take good care of him. I went to leave and wanted to look back, but I was too hurt and saddened by it. It was the moment I left my son to left for the Sept of the Sleeping Lion. Everything faded to black again.

This time, the smoke was black and white. It seemed to be going off in a direction so we followed it. As we did, a familiar smell entered our noses of the herb Star Screamer had given us. We heard singing again, but this time we could not make out the words. The world came into view and it was the church again. However, this time I looked frightened as a sang. None of the words made any sense and my voice began to crack.

As this happened, the parishioners began to transform into something kind of like a movie werewolf. The vision of myself began screaming and ran out the left exit as the wolfman creatures started to chase her. We gave chase after her as five of the creatures closed on the door she exited. There were about 30 in total and they didn’t seem to be paying any attention to us, but we could interact with them, shoving them out the way to get to the door.

The vision of me screamed as she ran down the hall. The wolfman creatures were running and leaping off the walls to get to her. A T-junction was ahead and she took a left as we followed. We all shifted to Crinos form to run faster. Eli leapt over all of them and tried to stop the five closest to her. They managed to slip past him. John took this moment to stop the large group in the back by using brute force. Bjorn managed to close in and take out three of the five near the vision of me. I took down one myself with skill I didn’t even realize I had.

Yoder managed to take out the last one as the vision of me hit the wall. Elevator doors opened and we realized we were in the Worstell Hotel, the wolfman creatures gone. The vision of myself entered the elevator, aging to my age, and a creepy looking guy entering the elevator with her. The doors slammed shut before we could get to her and the walls became translucent where we could see what was going on inside.

The creepy looking guy said “what’s the matter wolfie?” as he closed in on her. The elevator started going up as my vision self told the guy to not touch her. We climbed the stairs as Eli entered the elevator shaft coming after them. I told the pack that this isn’t what happened at the hotel, remembering it clearly. The creepy looking guy grabbed her hair as Eli leapt up to the bottom of the shaft. Eli tried to claw his way through the floor of the elevator, but failed making him lose control.

The creepy looking guy was trying to fondle my vision self as the elevator door opened. John and I grabbed him and my vision self out of the elevator as Eli began coming up through the floor. The creepy looking guy freaked out at the sight of us and we threw him back into the elevator to avoid the Rage of Eli. Eli shredded him as the world faded to black.

Things were still black and Eli charged us. I remembered the Thrall of the Wyrm and Eli was currently in it. We all grabbed a hold of Eli until he finally calmed down. The smoke returned, extremely thick, and began to form a vortex. As the world returned, we found ourselves back in my bedroom. My vision self was being pinned to the bed by Keith as he ripped her clothes off trying to rape her. I quickly grabbed him and threw him into the closet.

My vision self look pale white, almost like she might throw up. From the closet came Samuel Haight, boasting that we couldn’t kill him. I charged him and gutted him, and although it ripped his guts out, he just stood there laughing at us. As we looked on at him, my vision self screamed and began the slow, painful First Change. Her claws began to sprout and bones began to crunch as my parents came into the room. We tried to grab them, but our hands went right through them. We were no longer in a nightmare, but back to a memory. The bed collapsed under her weight as my mother began to pray. My father tried to hold me back, but it was futile. My vision self killed them and the world went black again.

This time, there was no mist. We could barely see in front of us. We knew there was a door there, but we struggled to find the knob. As we opened it, a faceless man appeared in front of us. We asked who he was, but he remained cryptic about it. He told us he was fascinated with me and didn’t want to harm me. He was a Mage who had stumbled into the dream world I created due to my nightmares. He offered to return my memories for keeping the Chimare around.

We asked him about his face and he told us he did it to keep his identity a secret. He told us he could repair my mind and take away my nightmares if I would allow him to use them to power the Chimare longer so that he might study it. He mentioned that we had something he required: the power source. We realized he was talking about the caern.

I realized I would be no good to the pack in my current condition. I couldn’t help them or protect them as an amnesiac, or worse, catatonic. I agreed to it and he transformed into tentacles telling me he was sorry for the hand that fate dealt me, but maybe these things happen so better things can happen in the future. He then told me I should wake up and I did along with the rest of the pack. I could remember everything. I wondered about what the Mage said to me before he fixed me. There was something almost prophetic about it, like he knew more than he was telling.

It was still early that night as only a few hours had passed. Everyone wondered if I was alright and I told them I was, thanking them for helping me. Eli took this time to tell us about the vision Ariel had several nights ago about Lindsey. Since it was still night, we went back to bed. I slept peacefully that night for the first time since shortly before my First Change.

We awoke the next morning and went to Crafty to talk about yesterday. He told us the names of the Garou who had visited yesterday and they had only not attacked because they were constantly busy with the Wyrm and other Septs. Now that I had my bearings, I asked Crafty what he meant by “the old ways,” to which Mackie spoke up about keeping the Sept free of the weak and only Fianna.

Crafty said we’re in a Catch-22 situation because we can’t risk weakening the Sept because the other Septs will think we are weak. At the same time, we can’t strengthen it because the minions of the Wyrm will encroach on us and we might not be able to repel them, looking just as weak as if we let the Sept weaken.

Crafty then told about us about a story Hansen believed. Most knew what Lion represented with the fall of the White Howlers. Hansen believed that his return would bring the rest of the Fianna to join the Black Spiral Dancers. I thought this was ridiculous as Lion was not Wyrm-tainted, merely disgraced. Still, the Sept of the Three Waters was divided and the newscast only seemed to give the story more credibility as they believed the Black Spirals were behind that.

Because of this story and its growing belief, it undermined our accomplishments. Killing Samuel Haight should have gained us much more renown than it did. Even worse, our failings are magnified by this. Mackie took this glum news as an opportunity to drink and went back to the cabin to get some with John going with him. As they left, Crafty mentioned that smoothing over the relationship with the Sept of the Three Waters would help things out.

Still, nothing seemed like it would help. Repaying them might make us look weak depending on how it was done. We flirted with the idea of giving Jonathon to them to help, but that didn’t go any farther than discussion. It seemed like sticking to our business might be the only option that didn’t engender any hatred amongst the other Septs since hiding would do no good. We would have to just keep up public appearances while fortifying our Sept without building our numbers.

We told him about the Mage in my Chimare and I was worried I had endangered not only our Sept, but also the Sept of the Second City in Chicago. He told us Mages had taken out caerns before and it’s why most of the Septs in the area stayed small save the Sept of the Three Waters. He was also worried about why the Sept of the Raging Storm had taken Rage Heart in. The Wendigo hated all European Garou after they took over Septs in the area a couple of centuries ago. The fighting between the Wendigo and European Garou only became a truce in the early 20th century and now our Sept might have broken that truce inadvertently.

We considered asking the Fae for help, but Crafty reminded us they were tricksters and would get more in return than we asked for. However, he said if they owed us, we could hold them to it.

Mackie returned and told us the food was low so we realized we were going to have to go into town. Because we might have to stay at the Sept for a long period, we decided we were going to have to buy food in bulk. We went to talk with Cliff about taking us into Santa Cruz, but not before having one drink with Mackie.

Cliff agreed to take us into town since he needed to shop for the lodge anyway. We took two vans with John driving one and Cliff driving the other. Eli still had $1,500 left from what he withdrew from the ATM so he took $500 for food, $500 for Lindsey, and $500 for a car fund so we wouldn’t have to ask everyone to take us around anymore. Eli asked for any pack members to chip in if they could. We asked Cliff before we left if he had a membership to Costco, which thankfully he did.

Arriving at Costco, we set off to get food and alcohol for Mackie plus moots. Eli told Miguel to snag a wallet or two so we might find some more ids to fake for the rest of the pack who needed a license or id. Miguel managed to get two good wallets, one containing $725, and the other with coupons. We put the money towards the car fund and used the coupons to make the food cheaper and buy more alcohol. I felt bad having to steal from people to do this, but I didn’t want to say anything to the rest of the pack.

After we paid for our stuff and left, Eli had us stop by Lindsey’s place to give her some money. She was curious about it and Eli said it was for all she did for us. She tried to give a hundred dollars back to have him take her out to eat, but he refused to take it, telling her he had a job so he could pay on his own. He mentioned we were going to buy a car. Lindsey said we could borrow her car whenever we wanted, but we didn’t want to if she needed it. Eli took an auto trader magazine and some cardboard boxes before we left her work.

At the Sept, Miguel tried forging the ids he snagged, but didn’t do so hot with it. John used this time to call Regina and inadvertently made a date for himself in San Francisco on Friday. Eli and I went out on bawn patrol with Rusty and Rivet that night. He mentioned he felt he knew me better and didn’t realize I was always so nurturing. I told him thank you, but I wished it could have been on better terms than to have to rescue me. We decided to use this opportunity to hunt. I had been getting better at hunting and with Eli’s help; we got a nice deer to bring back to the Sept.

When we found out about John’s date, Eli decided to make a date with Lindsey in San Francisco since he didn’t want to separate the group. Bjorn also figured he could go on a date with Gina too. It would have left Miguel and myself to our own devices, but I mentioned Kenith who I met in the elevator at the Worstell Hotel I could spend time with. I felt a little bad for Miguel, but I thought maybe he could spend a little time with the Fae since they would keep him safe.

I sat in the cabin that night, staring at my family bible. I still felt guilty for what happened to my foster parents, but I had hoped that now the nightmares were gone, I would eventually be able to put the past behind me. Seeing the memories so clear though hurt and I now wanted my son near me again more than ever. I needed to get in touch with the Sept of the Second City and warn them about the Mages. I laid down that night, cradling the bible in my hands, and said a little prayer for my foster parents. Maybe better things are in store for me.

Learning About the Fae, Joining a Camp, and Caitlyn’s Fractured Mind… (Game 12)

We found ourselves stuck in the middle of a San Francisco neighborhood trying to figure out what to do next. Adela initially didn’t want to come with us, even in spite of mentioning Mabe was one who led us to her.

She told us of her time in an old house. She was taken care of by someone named “The Tutor.” The notion that the Tutor might have been Mabe occurred to me, but I realized it was probably very unlikely. The Tutor fed her, but she suspected there were drugs in the food.

Eli really pressed to let us take her to Mabe, who would probably know more on how to help her. Adela thought the burned items would have been the key to helping her remember, but that wasn’t going to do any good now. At that moment, I realized the old cigarettes were her grandmas. I assumed the journal might have been hers at well. Maybe Adela inherited it. Anyway, we needed to find a way to take her to Mabe.

I didn’t have much money, but I suggested a taxi since we needed to get home quickly because Ariel would be at the lodge at 8 am. We also considered stealing a car, something I didn’t feel very comfortable with. In the end, Eli managed to hotwire an old VW bus, which was perfect considering how many people we had with us. It didn’t have much gas, but it would get us to where we needed to go.

Cliff called as we were getting ready to get into the van. He had gotten information from Crafty that another wayward Garou was in San Francisco. I told Cliff I needed Crafty to call me about Adela and he told me he would get him to return my call. I apologized for keeping him up so early in the morning, but he told me to not worry about it.

I screwed up pretty bad in the car doing the Rite of Questing Stone without realizing Adela might be a breach of the Litany. I was so concerned about helping out another of our bloodline that I did it without thinking. Thankfully, Eli was able to cover for me and have Adela sit in the front so she couldn’t see what I was doing. Adela wondered about why the doppelganger of her wasn’t interested in the quill, but none of us could think of any reason.

Crafty then called and I tried to bluff the situation with Adela. I didn’t want to reveal that Mabe had anything to do with it since both Mabe wanted it a secret and Crafty told us to avoid her. Eventually, I realized I just wasn’t good at lying to him so I handed the phone to Eli and he told the truth about what Mabe wanted. We couldn’t remember what Mabe had said so Crafty told us he would call back and find out.

Adela asked to see my phone and Eli obliged. She marveled at it since it was obviously far more advanced than the tech from 1999. She asked what year it was and we told her. The phone then rang and startled Adela since she couldn’t figure out how to answer it. Eli answered and Crafty repreated what Mabe had said.

“Sad girl. Sad Mabe. Sad People. Free girl. Free People. City close. Golden bridge. Sparkling bay. Take girl. Show girl. Mabe People. Sad now. Show girl. Girl learns. Girl happy. Girl friend. Secrets keep. Silence keep. Friends keep.”

Crafty told us this was why he didn’t want us interacting with Mabe. She was a trickster and could get you doing things that weren’t important to us or maybe even dangerous. Eli told her that she asked us to do it. Still, it was lucky we were in the right city and we could pick up the wayward Garou. It didn’t seem like Crafty was mad at us, but a little more frustrated with Mabe.

The Questing Stone led us to a ghetto of San Francisco. There, in a drain pipe, we heard a small girl snoring. Eli told me to approach her since I would startle her least. I shook her leg and she recoiled back into the tunnel.  Eli told her we were sent here to help her. She told us she had been on her own for a while. She told us she was waiting for one word to know if we were safe. I thought Lion might be it since he summoned us, but it turned out John had it right with Fianna.

The girl’s name was Agnis O’Grady and she had been on her own since her parents were killed off by a threat she guess was supernatural. I could tell she was still scared and didn’t trust us. We began to make our way back to the lodge when Adela announced she was hungry. I mentioned we could stop by a McDonalds on the way and I offered to buy Agnis something to help ease her tension a little.

As we drove towards the nearest McDonalds, a restaurant caught Adela’s eye and she told us she wanted to eat there. It was a classy looking place called the Stinking Rose. I wasn’t sure how much it would cost so we went up to look at the cost of the specials. Sadly, it was far too much for me to afford, even if I just wanted to eat there by myself.

We were going to leave when a massive, hulking man approached us asking if we were hungry. We were all apprehensive at first considering that kind of kindness coming from someone looking like him usually meant bad things. Still, Adela was more than happy to go in and we followed. We tried to lie a bit about where we were from since we didn’t want him knowing where the Sept was. Adela then mentioned going to meet Mabe in Santa Cruz.

Still nervous as we were, he told us to order whatever we wanted and he would take care of the tab. Once our food arrived, I could see that it was very high end and delicious. Still, I checked to make sure there was no Wyrm taint on it because it would be very easy to seduce people like this. Thankfully, it was just regular food.

As we started to eat, a man in a pink hat came to our table and began making small talk. He told us he was Royal Ascot, grandfather of the Summer Court, a title that clearly didn’t sound normal. Agnis and Adela appeared to be staring at his ears and the rest of us wondered why. He told us the large man was Washington Barkley, his soldier, which I didn’t like the sound of. He thanked us for bringing Adela back to awaken her from her sleep. We didn’t understand what he was talking about and then Jonathon mentioned Tolith de Fion.

Realizing we were Fianna, he became even more cordial and told us about the Fae and their relationship to the Fianna. He told Adela had been transformed, but lost her true self to her banality. The doppelganger was merely there to make sure she wasn’t missed. He told us he would keep Adela here, keep her safe, and train her the Fae way. Agnis wanted to know what he was and he replied he was a Fae.

With that, Royal gave us a garlic cube to eat as long as we didn’t make a scene after eating. A little confused, we went ahead and ate it. It allowed us to see the Fae as they truly are. Washington looked like an ogre while Adela looked like a dryad. Royal merely had pointed ears. It was actually pretty cool.

paper bird

For returning the lost Fae, he offered us an origami bird that we could blow on and whisper to so we could get in contact with Royal whenever we needed. We would be brothers to the Fae as long as we did each other right. The bond between us would get stronger for helping each other out. He insisted we stay at a nearby hotel since it was late. I told Eli we would have to postpone the party with Ariel. He was a very touchy, feely kind of Fae and kissed us on the cheek as he got ready to leave with Adela. Before he left, I asked whether you could gain the ability to see them in true form all the time, but he told me it was purely determined by how close your blood was to the Fae. I was a little disappointed since it made me feel like a mutt since I had no pure breed in me as far as I knew.

As we left, Jonathon was concerned about Royal capturing her like the her journal said, but we all put those fears to rest since we trusted him. We took a bus taxi to the Worstell hotel and Eli asked to use my phone. We were going to postpone the party, but instead we decided to bring it to the hotel. Eli told Cliff to bring all of the non-wolf kinfolk to the hotel.

In the meantime, we realized Agnis hadn’t even done her Rite of Passage yet, so we took the opportunity to teach her. I started with the Litany as the most obvious thing to know and then the rest of us worked our way to telling her about the various tribes, Septs, enemies, etc. It wasn’t very much considering our limited experience in life, but for Agnis it must have been a handful. She seemed to take it well and Agnis and I slept in the same room that night.

I awoke the next morning not having any nightmares, which was a relief. They seemed to be getting much worse lately. The kinfolk didn’t arrive till about 7 pm so most of the day was just cleaning ourselves up from our travels. Cliff then arrived with Lindsey, Gina, and Ariel in tow. We told him we could order whatever we wanted since it was all going to be on the house. Cliff took that as a nudge to order some of the most expensive scotch he could.

From there, everyone paired off with the usual people hanging out together. Gina and Bjorn sat together while Eli and Lindsey were together as normal. I sat with Cliff watching TV, sometimes going to see what the others were doing. I only sipped on some of the scotch Cliff got since I wasn’t in the mood to get drunk.

As the night wore on, Ariel went to go get a small bottle of vodka from the mini fridge when she collapsed. Eli and Lindsey helped her up, but she said she was fine. Eli sent Lindsey to get something for Ariel during that time Ariel told Eli of a vision. What she said we don’t know since Eli didn’t say, but I could see concern in his eyes so it must have been something personal and important.

creepy guy in hotel

After that, the night went back to being fun. There was only one bathroom and when I had to pee, it was always occupied. I finally went down to the lobby to go to the bathroom. Once I left, I found myself being hit on by the creepiest guy I had ever met. He tried striking up a conversation with me as I walked to the elevator. I told him I was a minor, but that didn’t deter him. I made it into the elevator and he tried going in with me. I thought I was going to get attacked and it made me nervous as I reached behind my back for Faith. Before things could get bad, a young man pushed him out of the way and shut the elevator.

His name was Kenith Kincaid and he was a lawyer from his family practice. I admit he was kind of cute. We made some small talk on the way up the elevator and he stopped at the floor below us. He managed to get a couple more looks at me before the door shut and I was glad someone had stopped that guy.

I decided I was going to get drunk to calm my nerves from whole ordeal. I sat down next to Cliff and had him give me some of the Scotch. It wasn’t too bad. It was a bit smoky tasting, but for the money it cost it was worth it.

The party continued until Gina’s phone rang. Lisa was on the other end and she told us about how Kristin was freaked out by William’s comments two days ago. She had asked her ex-boyfriend’s dad to look into William and his dead girlfriend. Eli got the news and responded as I thought he would: by punching William in the mouth. Thankfully, no fights broke out, but I knew things were about to get bad for us.

We all went to bed pretty wasted on the booze. I unintentionally nuzzled up to Cliff because I was cold and woke up to the worst headache I have ever had. I have never had a hangover before, but I had heard about them. This was about as accurate as they described. Lindsey was puking in the next room with Eli holding her hair back. Cliff had to get back to work so he took Ariel and Gina with him. Lindsey decided to go with us before returning to vomiting.

We called for Washington and he brought us a limo, which he chauffeured. We stopped by an ATM machine to withdraw as much money as we could from William’s account. Eli told him none of it was his as punishment for what he did. We got $4,000 out of the machine, which we decided would go towards Cliff in spite of any objections he might have. I, along with the others, still believed we owed him for helping us with the whole Foss thing.

We had Washington drop us off at Lindsey’s and thanked him for the ride. We then made our way back to the lodge where Eli gave $2,500 of the money to Cliff. Then we took Agnis to the Sept in order to introduce her to the other members. It was already getting late and I told Eli we were going to have to go work for Brian tomorrow so we all went to sleep that night.

I had the worst nightmare I have ever had that night. I dreamt I was pregnant again and I was giving birth. As I delivered Ryan, the doctor cut the umbilical cord and told me I didn’t deserve my child before walking away. I tried to get up but I began to bleed profusely from all of my orifices before collapsing. My body began to fall apart and I tried to scream for my child but my jaw fell off as I did.

I awoke to Quetzal trying to wake me up. I was almost late. I struggled to get myself together and leave the caern. We all gathered together and made our way to the Kaiser Permanente Arena where the Derby Girls played. Everyone came except for Jonathon and we were split up for various tasks. Miguel, as a younger kid, would be cleaning and folding towels. The rest of us were cataloging business information into the computers there. After that, all of us were shown to the skate cleaning area where we worked on that for a while.

After about three hours, Brian called us back to his office and told us we still needed parental information. We were all a bit disjointed since some of us still had parents and others did not. It looked like we were going to lose our jobs we just got when a familiar looking woman stopped Brian and took him aside. She resolved the whole thing with Brian and then took us aside to talk to us. I recognized her as the lady Bjorn and I helped in the trees. She told us to head to the Waldorf School after work and she would iron out any issues we might have in exchange for not mentioning the whole tree issue.

We finished our work for the day and go paid $80 cash. It wasn’t much, but I decided to save it for something I might need later on. We made our way to the Waldorf School and Lisa greeted us. She told us if we worked for five hours a week at the school, she would waive any fees involved there and help us complete our education. We would just need parental permission for the transcripts from our old school.

The younger members of the pack were going to have to go into school, but Eli chose to simply drop out because his amnesia had robbed him of the necessary information to enroll. John chose to get his GED while I decided to finish out the remaining year and a half I had left.

After we took care of that, we realized we needed to discuss what pack business we should take care of. Since taking care of Cliff was out of the way, we decided that bringing John’s parents to the Sept would be the first order of business. I desperately wanted to bring my son to the Sept since the people hunting us could use him against me. I would rather have him near where I could protect him than risk losing him far away. Unfortunately, with no one to watch him when I was away, I would have to wait until John’s parents arrived. I also mentioned cleansing the Vulture pack since I promised them I would and finding Rage Heart. With our business concluded, we decided to go to sleep.

[The next morning…]

Caitlyn awoke disoriented. She was half-naked with her clothes sitting at the end of the bed. She could not remember anything and did not recognize the pack save for Agnis who she had just met yesterday. She knew her fang dagger Faith was hers, but everything else was foreign to her. Anxiety began to set in and it was obvious Caitlyn was frightened. She tried to leave, but Eli told her to stay while they figured things out.

With some nudging, Caitlyn could remember a few things vaguely like the word Garou, Quetzal, and Mabe. Other than that, everything was a blank. Jonathon tried doing the Rite of Cleansing on her, thinking it was Wyrm related, but it did not fix it. Eli had Quetzal look at her spirit, but nothing seemed out of sorts with it. Confused, the pack called out for Ryan and Crafty.

Neither Ryan and Crafty could figure out what was wrong with her and the ominous statement of “she would have to go” made Caitlyn even more anxious. When the pack mentioned the Sept of the Three Waters, Caitlyn spoke up, remembering something clearly for the first time. The pack took Caitlyn to the edge of their bawn on foot because she could not remember how to shift. Gruffy and Leein greeted them and after being told of the problem, they arranged a meeting at the Pin Gallery.

Arriving at the Pin Gallery, the pack found it crawling with massive Garou who were guarding a Garou named Stands-With-Claw. She was the leader of the Sept of the Three Waters and was clearly not happy with the pack. She was tired of covering for them and they were going to have to pay her back soon.

Eli tried reasoning and buttering her up, but she rebuffed him. She told of the Get of Fenris and Shadow Lords were massing in her tribe against her because of the pack’s failures and decisions. The other two caerns wanted us dead and she wasn’t going to let Crafty die for us. She told the pack to fix our problems and get the Sept in order.

She introduced us to Star Screamer, an Uktena Theurge who would be able to help. She then left, bumping into Caitlyn and calling her a bitch. Caitlyn was still too frightened to react. Star Screamer started looking over Caitlyn much like a doctor, at one point even sticking his finger in her ear. He finally told the pack what the issue was:

“What I have to say is not good. Chimares are pocket realities formed by dreams. Some believe that for each dream of every sentient creature on Earth, there’s a reflection of it in a Chimares; other spiritualists attest that only the most powerful dreams can become ephemeral in the Umbra. Either way, a traveler who manages to enter another person’s dream may give insights into that sentient’s mind. With enough spiritual might, a visionary may reshape the dream, alter its outcome, or influence the dreamer’s mind. A Chimare can be a chilling nightmare or an idealistic paradise. Neither is real, but they’re dangerous enough to maim or kill the unprepared —or drive them mad.

My guess is that this poor girl has had such a problem with her dreams that they have formed their own Chimare with such intense emotion that the Chimare stripped the memories of her dreams good and bad into the mini realm. To correct this, the girl will have to be taken to confront her dreams and deal with them. Without help this would possibly drive her mad, with help everyone going is taking a risk but it decreases the chances of losing her to her own dreams. If you choose not to help her there is a chance that every night she sleeps, more will be lost to the Chimare until it takes her mind completely.

You will not be able to find this place by crossing over to the other side. This place you will have to go into this child’s mind and dream with her. To do that you will need to meditate and bond stronger than you have ever done so in the past. This may help- meditate and burn this so you smell and think as one. That will help. Also, keep in mind that rules do not apply here except for the ones that were created during the dream- so anything goes.”

The pack was given some herbs to help them think as one before Star Screamer told them about various issues. He talked the other Septs who hated the Sleeping Lion Sept, the fact that Rage Heart has been at the Sept of the Raging Storm for two weeks now, and that the Sleeping Lion Sept would likely have to fight another Sept to repay Stands-With-Claw. With that, he politely left.

While the politics of the Garou Nation were looming, the race to save Caitlyn’s mind was on…
